CALL TO WORSHIP                                             Jessica Parks

We come together in the sure knowledge:

God does not pass us by.

We gather to worship knowing this truth:

God fulfills promises.

Even when we cannot muster belief:

God is faithful to us.

CALL TO CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God of our salvation,

 incline your ear to us.

You have given us power:

power to heal, to bring hope,

 to comfort, to restore.

But we ignore that power,

choosing to live our own lives.

At worst, we abuse that power,

 storing up riches for ourselves

without an eye for the needs of others.

Forgive us. Remind us of our call

 to proclaim your good news,

 and to welcome each other

 as we would welcome you.

ASSURANCE OF GOD’S GRACE

Announcements

GODLY PLAY: Work Day

A work day is a Sunday when the students don't hear a story. During our typical Sunday morning time there is often not enough time for some of our art responses or to explore all they want to in the classroom so we have work days where the children are able to more fully engage in the "Play" part of Godly Play.

We hope you will join us at 10:15am for songs and memory verse time in the lounge. At 10:30, children will go downstairs to Godly Play, and adults will go upstairs to worship. Students will be brought upstairs for the final hymn.

LECTIONARY TEXTS

For anyone wishing to study the lectionary texts this week,

June 18th, the Lectionary texts are:

Matthew 9:35-10:8 (worship)

Psalm 116 (sermon)

Genesis 18:1-15

Exodus 19:2-8a

Psalm 100

Romans 5:1-8

YOUTH GROUP

Inviting all middle and high school students to join us next Sunday,

June 25th from 5:30-7:30pm for our monthly dinner, discussion, and games night. Please let Tracy know if you can come or if you have any questions. Any donations toward dinner are greatly appreciated and will be added to any future youth group meetings.

BOOK CLUB

St. James book club is currently reading Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr, a soaring story about children on the cusp of adulthood in worlds in peril, who find resilience, hope, and a book. Copies of the book are available in the office. We will meet tomorrow, Monday June 19th, at 7:00pm via zoom. Contact Tracy for the zoom link.

MISSION & SOCIAL ACTION

Please give generously to the Pentecost Offering which helps guide young people in Christian formation from their early years to adulthood. 40% of our collection stays with our congregation to support local ministries with children, youth, and young adults. The other 60% supports young adult volunteers serving in communities around the world, youth ministries like Presbyterian Youth Triennium, and to improve education for at-risk youth. You can give through the St. James website with the drop down tab for Pentecost offering, or in the collection envelopes that will be distributed in your bulletin on the 18th and collected on the 25th. You may also give online pcusa.org/donatepentecost. Thank you for prayerfully considering a donation.
