2 Kings 22-23ESV

  #56 To God Be the Glory

1 To God be the glory - great things He hath done!

So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,

Who yielded His life an atonement for sin

And opened the life-gate that all may go in.

Refrain:

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!

Let the earth hear His voice!

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!

Let the people rejoice!

O come to the Father through Jesus, the Son,

And give Him the glory - great things He hath done!

2 O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood -

To every believer, the promise of God.

The vilest offender who truly believes,

That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.[Refrain]

3 Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,

And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son.

But purer and higher and greater will be

Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see. [Refrain]

#724 Lead On, O King Eternal

1 Lead on, O King Eternal,

The day of march has come;

Henceforth in fields of conquest

Thy tents shall be our home.

Thro' days of preparation

Thy grace has made us strong;

And now, O King Eternal,

We lift our battle song.

2 Lead on, O King Eternal,

Till sin's fierce war shall cease,

And holiness shall whisper

The sweet amen of peace;

For not with swords' loud clashing,

Nor roll of stirring drums,

With deeds of love and mercy

The heav'nly kingdom comes.

3 Lead on, O King Eternal,

We follow, not with fears;

For gladness breaks like morning

Where'er Thy face appears.

Thy cross is lifted o'er us;

We journey in its light.

The crown awaits the conquest;

Lead on, O God of might.

#1022 Lord, We Confess Our Numerous Faults

1 Lord, we confess our numerous faults;

How great our guilt has been,

How vain and foolish all our thoughts,

How all our lives were sin.

But, O my soul, forever praise,

Forever love His name

Who turns your feet from dangerous ways

Of folly, sin, and shame.

2 ‘Tis not by works of righteousness

Which our own hands have done,

But we are saved by God’s free grace

Abounding through His Son.

‘Tis from the mercy of our God

That all our hopes begin;

Here by the Water and the Blood

Our souls are washed from sin.

3 Now through the purchase of His death

Who hung upon the tree,

The Spirit is sent down to breathe

On such dry bones as we.

Raised from the dead, we live anew;

And justified by grace,

We shall appear in glory, too,

And see our Father’s face.

Raised from the dead, we live anew;

And justified by grace,

We shall appear in glory, too,

And see our Father’s face.

#11 Come Thou Fount

1 Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,

Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;

Streams of mercy, never ceasing,

Call for songs of loudest praise.

Teach me some melodious sonnet,

Sung by flaming tongues above,

Praise His name--I'm fixed upon it--

Name of God's redeeming love.

2 Hitherto Thy love has blest me;

Thou hast bro't me to this place;

And I know Thy hand will bring me

Safely home by Thy good grace.

Jesus sought me when a stranger,

Wand'ring from the fold of God;

He, to rescue me from danger,

Bo't me with His precious blood.

3 O to grace how great a debtor

Daily I'm constrained to be!

Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,

Bind my wand'ring heart to Thee.

Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,

Prone to leave the God I love;

Here's my heart, O take and seal it;

Seal it for Thy courts above.

O LORD,

Our every sense, part, ability, and affection are snares to us.

We can hardly open our eyes but to envy those above us or despise those below.

We covet honor and riches of the powerful and we are proud and unmerciful to the rags of others.

If we behold beauty, it is a bait to lust.

Or if we see deformity, it stirs up loathing and disdain.

Am I made handsome or beautiful? It often fuels pride.

Am I disfigured or ugly? My heart often mopes.

Am I gifted? How I often lust for applause!

Am I unlearned? I often despise what I don’t have.

So many snares—but the greatest is ourselves.

Keep us mindful of these things, but let us not forget our heavenly title and the grace that can deal with every sin! Amen.

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth,

and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:

Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried;

He descended into hell;

The third day He arose again from the dead;

He ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
