    Welcome to our celebration of the Biblical holiday of the Feast of Trumpets… This is the feast that God commanded the Israelites to celebrate in Leviticus 23:24...
    Leviticus 23:24 NKJV
    “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.
    So why do we celebrate the feast of trumpets as a church? Well let me give you a few reasons...
    This feast of trumpets is a holiday that was created by God.
    It is a holiday that God’s people have celebrated for 1400 years before Jesus was born.
    It is a holiday that Jesus Himself, as an observant Jewish man, almost certainly Celebrated.
    It is a holiday that early Christians celebrated for the first 300 years of church history.
    It is a holiday that proclaims God as King, and I think He is a King worthy to be celebrated.
    It is a holiday that remembers all the good God has done, and when I remember all the goodness of God and all He has done for me, it gives me a reason to celebrate
    As a matter of fact… If Jesus has given YOU a reason to celebrate let me hear you praise the Lord, give Him a shout, give Him a hand clap of praise!

    Numbers 29:1 NKJV
    ‘And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work. For you it is a day of blowing the trumpets.
    Now of course when Leviticus and Numbers were written in Hebrew, not English, and the Hebrew word we translate as “Trumpets” is the word Teruah… thus we call this feast “Yom Teruah”… but the word “Teruah” has several meanings...
    תְּרוּעָה
    Teruah
    A shout of joy. A battle cry. Loud Praise. The blasting of the trumpets.
    Thus Yom Teruah can be translated, as we do, “The feast of Trumpets” but it is also sometimes called “The feast of Shouting”… either way, this is meant to be a loud celebration… So, If you have a shofar, a tambourine, a… trombone… listen if you have a voice and can lift up a shout… Then please use it to praise, to blast, to shout, to GET LOUD FOR JESUS...
    As a matter of fact, has God been good to you? Is He worthy of your praise? CAN WE GET LOUD FOR JESUS TONIGHT?

    Whenever a King would enter a city, His arrival would be announced with the sounding of Trumpets, that’s why the Feast of Trumpets is a celebration of the Kingship of Christ… so before our next trumpet blowing, let’s proclaim to the heavens exactly who our King is, Amen, come on and join us in singing THATS MY KING.

    Even though God commanded the feast of trumpets to be celebrated, and even though Christians celebrated it for about the first 300 years of Christian History, most today don’t. A major part of that is because of a Roman emperor named Constantine who famously said in regards to celebrating Jewish feasts “Christians should have nothing in common with the detestable Jewish crowd” and he went WAY out of his way to separate Christianity from Judaism… Now Emperor Constantine did a lot of good for the Church, but I think his antisemitism continues to hurt the church today… that spirit of “have nothing to do with the Jews” continues today… even though our Savior is Jewish, even though He celebrated the feast when on earth… still we think we ought to “Separate ourselves from all things Jewish” and I just don’t think that is Biblical.
    Show of hand’s, who here has never been to a feast of trumpets celebration?
    Who hear has, before this year, never heard of the feast of trumpets?
    That’s crazy because I just read TWO verses in the Bible about it… but it doesn't register in our western minds that we should be celebrating this...
    And I think we can thank emperor Constantine and other early antisemites for that… but it was never discouraged by Scripture… certainly we are not bound by the law to celebrate the feasts… but we shouldn’t need to be OBLIGATED to celebrate the goodness of God and His Kingship. We should WANT to celebrate these things, amen?!
    Another reason we celebrate these kinds of feast at our church is because about 8 years ago God spoke to me and said “Return to the Ancient Paths”… It never ceases to amaze me how much of the ancient traditions we as a church have lost. None-the-less, these ancient feasts are and always have been important… Let me read a verse for you...
    Amos 3:7 NKJV
    Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.
    God does NOTHING without revealing it to the prophets...
    That means all major events should be foretold in prophecy… the birth of Christ, the Death of Christ, His resurrection… the coming power of the Holy Spirit… these are things prophesied about in the Old Testament…
    And if you study Leviticus 23 you will find 7 feasts that God commanded, each of them prophetically telling of God’s plan for mankind.
    Passover → A Sacrificial Lamb → The Cross Unleavened Bread → Sinless & Hidden → The Tomb First Fruits → First of The Harvest → The Resurrection Pentecost → The Fullness of Harvest → The Holy Spirit
    For example, Passover foreshadows that the Messiah would Die as a sacrificial lamb so that those in him would not perish...and that prophecy was fulfilled on Passover some 2000 years ago… not around passover, but ON passover, when Christ was crucified and died.
    The feast of Unleavened Bread, is all about sin being hidden and cast out… it foreshadows Jesus three days in the tomb and His sinless life.
    It also happens to fall on the days after Passover, when Jesus was LITERALLY in the tomb.
    The feast of First Fruits prophecies that Jesus would rise from the dead, as the first fruits of the resurrection, as Paul calls it in 1 Corinthians 15:20, it just so happens that Jesus was resurrected on the Feast of First Fruits.
    The Feast of Weeks (Sometimes called Pentecost) pointed to the great harvest of souls and the gift of the Holy Spirit… and it was LITERALLY ON PENTECOST that the Holy Spirit came and empowered believers to go out and bring in a Harvest of Souls for the Kingdom of God.
    Now those four feasts, the spring feasts, have all been fulfilled already, and I think they are worth Celebrating!
    I think it is worth celebrating that Jesus died in our place!
    I think it is worth celebrating that Christ took away our sin!
    I think it is worth celebrating that Jesus ROSE AGAIN!
    I think it is worth celebrating that Jesus sent the Holy Spirit so that we can be empowered to tell others about Christ!

    So the four spring feasts have all been fulfilled already…
    But there are three more feasts, the fall feasts, that God commanded, they too are prophetic.
    Trumpets → The Gathering of the Troops → The Rapture Atonement → The King Returns → The Second Coming Tabernacles → God With Us → The Millennium & Eternity
    The Day of Atonement points prophetically to the second coming of Jesus , when Jesus comes from the clouds to defeat evil in the earth and reign for 1000 years.
    The feast of Tabernacles or the feast of Booths, is a prophetic promise that God will one day once again live with His people, here on earth… starting with the thousand year reign and continuing for eternity in New Jerusalem.
    But the first of the fall feasts is the feast of trumpets. Trumpets were the Biblical alarm system, when the trumpets in the city were blown a certain way, the army knew to gather. Thus, prophetically, the feast of trumpets represents the rapture of Christ’s church.
    1 Thessalonians 4:13–18 NKJV
    But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
    Let me read verse 16 again:
    1 Thessalonians 4:16 NKJV
    For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
    Remember this is the feast of Teru’ah… this is Yom Teru’ah and the Hebrew word Teru’ah literally means “Shouting, a great clamor, a battle cry, or the sound of trumpets”
    Jesus calls up His bride, the church with Teru’ah!

    1 Corinthians 15:52 NKJV
    in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
    Again we see the rapture happening with the sound of the Trumpet!
    We are called together and called to heaven with the sound of Teru’ah!
    Even in the book of Revelation there are Seven periods of time, and in that final period of time there is a great harvest, the rapture of the church…

    Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and on the cloud sat One like the Son of Man, having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle. And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, “Thrust in Your sickle and reap, for the time has come for You to reap, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.” So He who sat on the cloud thrust in His sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped.
    That describes the rapture, it starts with an angle quote “Crying out with a loud voice” to Jesus… That’s A Teruah… But not only that, These seven periods of time, they are called the “Seven Trumpets” in Revelation…

    So the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
    Each of those seven trumpets describe a period of time and certain events, and it is that final period of time, the final trumpet that the harvest happens...
    The rapture happens at the final Teru’ah!
    Now I don’t know about you, but I want to be a part of that harvest, I want to be a part of the rapture at the final trumpet… If you also want to be a part of that Teru’ah, then give Jesus a shout of praise!

    Shofar Blowing - Shevarim (שְׁבָרִים) - Three short wail-like blasts
    Now you may have noticed that during the feast of trumpets we blow the shofar, a rams horn, which was a biblical trumpet… we blow it a lot!
    Tradition says that we are to blow the shofar 100 times during the feast of trumpets.
    This is done to completely and fully fulfil the command to make noise and blow the trumpet.
    Now we don’t know exactly why tradition has become to blow the trumpet 100 times, but we do know that the shofar is the most common musical instrument in the Bible and that it was used for a variety of purposes…
    In the Biblical time of Israel, the shofar was blown
    To mark the arrival of a new moon;
    To celebrate a simcha (joyous occasion);
    To proclaim liberty to the captives;
    To hail a king at his coronation;
    To warn of impending judgment;
    To gather troops to battle;
    To sound an alarm;
    To call a sacred assembly and time of fasting;
    To draw God’s attention.
    To confuse the enemy camp;
    Now, Rosh Hashanah celebrates the first new moon of the Jewish civil year, so we blow the shofar.

    And today we celebrate a joyous occasion, because we know Jesus is coming back!

    Did Jesus not come to proclaim liberty to the captives, did he not set you free?
    Shofar Blowing - Shevarim (שְׁבָרִים) - Three short wail-like blasts
    Is not Jesus King of your life and of all creation?
    Shofar Blowing - Tekiah (תְּקִיעָה) - A long single blast
    Do we not know that the world will be judged, and isn’t it our job to warn them of this judgment?
    Shofar Blowing Teru'ah (תְּרוּעָה) - Nine staccato blasts of alarm
    Is there not a spiritual battle to take place on the planes of Armageddon… but not only that, is there not a spiritual battle going on for the soul of our nation, our city, our workplaces, our schools and our families?
    Shofar Blowing - Shevarim (שְׁבָרִים) - Three short wail-like blasts
    Should we not blow the trumpet in Zion, and sound the alarm on His holy mountain that Jesus is coming back and when He comes back it will be with fire in His eyes and a sword in His hands?
    Shofar Blowing - Teru'ah (תְּרוּעָה) - Nine staccato blasts of alarm
    Is not this place a holy sanctuary, are we not a sacred assembly?

    Do we, as God’s people, desire to be noticed by God… that God would care for us and take an active role in our lives?

    Man if the enemy has been messing with your life and you would like to send some confusion into his camp… LETS GET LOUD!

    Shofar Blowing - Tekiah (תְּקִיעָה) - A long single blast
    We now aproach the final trumpet blast, called Tekiah ha-Gadol… Which literally means the great blast. This tradition comes from Isaiah 27:13

    So it shall be in that day: The great trumpet will be blown; They will come, who are about to perish in the land of Assyria, And they who are outcasts in the land of Egypt,And shall worship the Lord in the holy mount at Jerusalem.
    Do you see the rapture imagary here? Because Jesus did, in fact He quoted it when talking about the rapture!

    And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
    Everyone knew what Jesus was quoting because they all celebrated the feast of Trumpets, and now you know what He is quoting too… So let’s make this last shout the loudest… maybe you want to shout the name of Jesus… maybe you want to cry out MARANATHA or HALLELUJAH… maybe you want to cry out in tongues… or shout any other number of praises or prayers… just make it LOUD!!!!!!
    In fact I have these trumpets for the kids… for the final blast kids… when Josh starts blowing his trumpet your blow yours!
    Okay are you ready to get loud church? On the count of three… 1...2...3!
    Shofar Blowing - Tekiah ha-Gadol (תְּקִיעָה הַגָּדוֹל) - A great long blast (for as long as you can blow!)
    Now is the time we get to feast. Can everyone head downstairs and find a seat at a table, we have a couple of blessings to pray then we will eat!

    You will also notice on your table two Feast of Trumpets stapples.
    The apples and the honey represent the sweetness of the fall harvest coming in, and to me at least, whenever I think of apples I think of the verse “Taste and see that the Lord is good!”. As you eat them, remember the goodness of God and how sweet it is to be in His kingdom.
    Secondly is a special bread called Challah bread… normally this bread is made in a braided strip, but on the feast of Trumpets it is backed round and shaped like a crown representing the Kingship of God.
    As you eat it remember that Christ is King and deserves all the glory!
    Also, though Christ get’s the glory, I do want to say thank you to Lacey Rickles and Alison Padget for cooking the bread… and for our deacons, pastors, and kids helping serve on media, sound, and worship, and helping serve tables tonight. THANK YOU!
    Finally, before we eat dinner let’s bless the food.
