20251102 Trojan Horses
1 Peter 5:8 NLT Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.🧠Opening Icebreaker“Have you ever received a gift that turned out to be a trap or disappointment?”Introduction: The Trojan Horse of TroyLet me take you back to ancient Greece (~1200 BC). The Greeks had been trying to conquer the city of Troy for ten long years. Nothing worked — until they built a giant wooden horse, left it at the gates, and pretended to sail away. The Trojans thought it was a gift. They wheeled it inside the city walls, celebrated their “victory,” and went to sleep. That night, Greek soldiers hidden inside the horse crept out and opened the gates. Troy fell — not by force, but by deception.Satan still uses Trojan Horses. Not made of wood, but of ideas, temptations, and half-truths. He doesn’t always knock down the gates of your life—he sneaks in through the back door. So, today we are going to look at ways that Satan uses preverbal Trjoan Horses to sneak into our lives and habits.Main TeachingPoint 1: Satan Masquerades as Light2 Corinthians 11:14 warns us:2 Corinthians 11:14 NLT But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. That means he doesn’t come with horns and a pitchfork. He comes dressed like a friend, a philosophy, a trend, or even a preacher.🎠Illustration: The Poisoned CookieImagine someone hands you a chocolate chip cookie. It smells amazing. You take a bite — delicious. But what if I told you it had just a pinch of cyanide? Would you still eat it?Satan doesn’t serve up full plates of evil. He bakes in just enough poison to kill your soul slowly.💡 Application: What are your Trojan Horses? That show you binge that glorifies sin? — Trojan Horse. That influencer who says “follow your truth”? — Trojan Horse. That bitterness you nurse because “you deserve better”? — Trojan Horse.Point 2: Satan Twists Truth SubtlyGenesis 3:1 says,Genesis 3:1 NIV Now the serpent was more crafty...He didn’t tell Eve, “God is a liar.” He asked, “Did God really say…?” Just enough doubt to twist the truth.📚 Illustration: The Counterfeit BillFederal agents don’t study fake bills. They study the real ones so well that any counterfeit stands out. Satan’s lies are convincing because they’re 90% truth. But that 10%? It’s deadly.🧠The Joke is on us:You know the devil’s favorite Bible verse? “Judge not.” He loves it because people use it to justify anything. But they forget the rest of the chapter!Point 3: Trojan Horses in MoralityMatthew 7:15 warns us about wolves in sheep’s clothing.Matthew 7:15 NLT “Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves.Today, moral Trojan Horses are everywhere:“Love is love”— used to erase biblical boundaries.“It’s my body”— used to justify abortion.“God wants me to be happy”— used to excuse adultery.🧵 Story: The Thread of CompromiseA young man once said, “I’ll never cheat on my wife.” But he started texting an old flame. “Just catching up,” he said. Then coffee. Then a hug. Then a hotel room.Sin doesn’t leap — it creeps. One thread of compromise unravels the whole garment.Point 4: How to Spot a Trojan HorseEphesians 6:11 tells us toEphesians 6:11 NLT Put on all of God’s armor...That means:🗡️ The Sword of the Spirit: Know your Bible better than the devil does.🛡️ The Shield of Faith: Trust God even when culture mocks you.👟 The Shoes of Peace: Walk away from toxic influences.🧠The Helmet of Salvation: Guard your mind from seductive lies.🔍 Practical Test: If your not sure if this is of God or Satan —Ask yourself:Does this idea align with Scripture?Does it glorify God or self?Does it produce fruit or confusion?Does it glorify God or man?If it fails the test — it’s a Trojan Horse.Point 5: The Cost of Letting It InLetting in a Trojan Horse doesn’t just affect you — it affects your family, your friends, your church, your community, and your legacy.💔 Story: The Pastor Who FellA respected pastor once began watching pornography “just occasionally.” He justified it as stress relief. Years later, it led to an affair, a broken marriage, and a shattered church.Satan didn’t kick down his door. He walked right in through a Trojan Horse.Has Satan walked in to your life through a Trojan Horse?Closing: The Good NewsHere’s the hope:Jesus sees every Trojan Horse. He’s the Shepherd who knows the wolves. He’s the Light that exposes darkness. He’s the Gate that protects the sheep. But you must choose to keep the gate shut!Call to Action:Repent of any Trojan Horses you’ve let in.Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal hidden compromises.Commit to guarding your heart, your home, your habits.🎤 Final Illustration: The Guard at the GateImagine a soldier at the gate of a military base. Every day, he checks IDs, inspects packages, and questions strangers. One day, someone says, “It’s just a gift.” But the soldier says, “I don’t care how pretty it looks. If it’s not on the list, it doesn’t get in.”Be that soldier. Guard your gate. Because Satan’s Trojan Horses don’t look evil — they look enticing.Closing Prayer:Lord, expose every Trojan Horse in our lives.Give us discernment to see through deception. Give us courage to shut the gates. And grace to walk in truth.Protect our homes, our hearts, and our minds. In Jesus’ name, Amen.1 Peter 5:8NIV2011
