  • Moses fleeing and his new life
    Yet the unexpected still was about to happen
    Exodus 3:2–3 NIV
    2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.”

    The Burning Bush

    Every time i think about the story of the burning bush I think of camping
    Growing up with the fires when camping and watching the fire
    If you watch long enough you can see the fire consume the logs
    One of our favorite thing to do growing up would be to go find a fresh branch of evergreen trees that would be in the woods.
    Snap crackle pop
    Yet, this bush wasn’t doing that it was on fire but not being destroyed.
    Why would this happen?

    The Unexpected

    God uses the unexpected sometimes to grab our attention
    Exodus 3:4 NIV
    4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.”
    This flaming bush that no one could explain or understand why it was there or how it was happening is filled with the presence of God.
    Why did God call him over with the unexpected?

    To Teach Him

    God gets a hold of Moses and begins he training by first teaching him the importance of Who and what God is.
    Exodus 3:5–6 NIV
    5 “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” 6 Then he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
    God is Holy
    This is the first use of the word Holy in the Bible
    God places a level of separation between him and us
    Remove your sandals
    While God reveals that there is a separation there is something important we can’t forget, He called Moses to the Bush.
    We are to be prepare ourselves though
    Exodus 19:10 NIV
    10 And the Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Have them wash their clothes
    Similar approaches in the NT
    Hebrews 10:22 NIV
    22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.
    Now the question we might need to ask is why is this important for us
    We believe as Christians that we can come to God with things, that we can approach.
    This is possible because of Jesus
    Ephesians 2:18 NIV
    18 For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.
    It is because of who he is that we are able to approach the throne
    Moses approached the unexpected and he learned that God sets a standard
    Moses learned that he had to be respectful and that approaching God was to be done with a proper attitude and heart
    Jesus came and did the Unexpected
    Yet, now we come to God and we do so with love and respect because.

    22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds;
