  • God did
  • 1 Corinthians 12:4–11 NASB95
4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. 6 There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. 7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.
Walk up to the lamp (off)
“This lamp is connected to power. The wiring is there, the outlet is live, but it’s still dark.
    *Pause*
“The issue isn’t connection. It’s activation.”
    *Turn lamp on*
“Instant light. An activation of power given.”
    Read
    1 Corinthians 12:7 NASB95
7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
Paul is telling us that as believers, we have already been given the spiritual gifts.
We already have access through The holy Spirit.
However, having a gift, and activating it are not the same thing.
So the question is; Have your gifts been activated? Are they at work for the good of the mission?
POINT 1: The Holy Spirit is the Power source

The Holy Spirit is the power source

    1 Corinthians 12:4 NASB95
4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit.
The truth is, the power doesn’t come from us.
    Acts 1:8 NASB95
8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
You are NOT the electricity. You are simply the Vessel for it. Chosen by God.
The lamp doesn’t strain to shine, it simply stays connected and switched on.
And some of us are striving instead of surrendering.
POINT 2: Gifts- Dormant vs. Gifts Activated
    2 Timothy 1:6 NASB95
6 For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
Some versions say, “fan into flame” the gift of God
The Greek word used here, means:
    to cause to blaze again
    rekindle
to cause, to begin to be active again
    to take on new life
What its saying; We are inflamed with new life through God’s blood and sacrifice.
    But Fire must be stirred.
And Faith must be exercised (Just as Eythan preached this morning).
Gifts are meant to be used...
    1 Timothy 1:12 NASB95
12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service,
What gift, or gifts, has God placed in you that have been sitting idle?
Some signs that you have inactive gifts God has placed in you:
You have words of encouragement, but stay silent.
You feel compassion, but don’t step forward.
You discern something in prayer, but dismiss it.

Dormant gifts don’t build the body, activated gifts do.

    Two categories of Gifts
When we talk about spiritual gifts, sometimes we mix the categories up.
The Bible actually tells us two major ways the Spirit works.

Motivational Gifts- Who you are wired to be

    Romans 12:6–8 NASB95
6 Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; 7 if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; 8 or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
    These include:
    Prophecy
    serving
    teaching Encouraging
    Giving
    Leadership
    mercy
These are like the personality imprints of grace on your life. They shape how you naturally respond.
    Examples:
    some people naturally encourage
    some naturally organize
    some naturally feel deep compassion.
These gifts describe how we will consistently function in the body.
And in fact our “personalities,” which are God given, work together.
    They go hand in hand.
Our inborn personalities will shape how these gifts are expressed.
Paul is telling the Roman church that we are gifted in more way than one, and that our spiritual gifts are not just replacing who we are but rather they're a compliment to it.
There is this Pastor in Canada named Jeremy Norton, and the way he explains it sums it up perfectly…He says; “When we come to Jesus, we’re not just saved, we’re gifted. Spiritual gifts don’t replace who we are, but add a missing dimension to our personality. They’re how God completes the puzzle of who we’re created to be
God does not override who we are!
The gifts are not the results of a possession, they’re a reposition! Aligning us with who He created us to be! When we surrender to Him and His will.

Manifestation gifts- How The Spirit moves in a moment

    1 Corinthians 12:8–10 NASB95
8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.
    These include:
    Words of wisdom
    words of knowledge
    Faith
    Healing
    Miracles
    Prophecy
    Discernment
    Tongues
    Interpretation
These are not personality traits, they are supernatural empowerments the spirit releases in specific moments.
key distinction about the two: motivational gifts are how you're wired, while manifestation gifts are how The Spirit moves.
God does not override who we are! He respects our human agency with an inviatation to follow Him, rather than forcing our compliance or overriding our personal will.
    Revelation 3:20 NASB95
20 ‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.
This highlights that God requests entry, rather than forcing the doorm open.
    Joshua 24:15 NASB95
15 “If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
This emphasizes the responsibility of human choice.
    Deuteronomy 30:19 NASB95
19 “I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,
shows God presenting us with options rather than forcing a decision.
    Romans 12:2 NASB95
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
suggests a voluntary tranformation process not a forced one…
The gifts are not the results of a possession, they’re a reposition! Aligning us with who He created us to be! When we surrender to Him and His will.
    Refer to the lamp
Personality does not replace gifts but acts as the "instrument" or "container" through which the Spirit channels them, creating a unique, personalized application of that gift.
Rather than overriding us, God works in us as believers, to align our will with HIS!
Let me reassure those of you here who are more “cautious”…
    You do have a choice.
You don’t have to feel spiritual enough to qualify.
The spirit distributes as HE wills.
    1 Corinthians 12:11 NASB95
11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.
Another translation says “ he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.”
This message tonight isn’t about hype. It’s about healthy activation.
    POINT 3:
    Activation Requires Our Faith
    *Go back to lamp*
“Turning the switch on is simple, but it requires the forward action of flipping them switch.”
Look at the gifts listed in 1 corinthians 12:8-10…
    1 Corinthians 12:8–10 NASB95
8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.
None of these gifts operate accidentally.
    They operate intentionally.
    The Holy Spirit is intentional.
    Activation happens when:
    You step out
    You speak up
    You pray boldly
    You trust the Spirit’s prompting

The Holy Spirit supplies the power, we supply the YES

    Corporate Vision:
    1 Corinthians 12:11 NASB95
11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.
When gifts are activated, the church becomes alive!
    Faith rises.
    Healing flows.
    Encouragement multiplies.
    the lost encounter God.
We are not called to be a church that is plugged in but powered off…
We are called to be activated!
We were never meant to rely only on our personality or natural makeup. The plan was always to be empowered by The Holy Spirit for the common good of making disciples of Jesus.
    ALTAR CALL
If you're hungry but cautious, here is what I believe God wants you to know:
This is about invitation, not pressure.
    Clarity, not chaos.
    Order, not emotional manipulation.
Let me say this clearly…The gifts of the spirit are not spooky or weird. They are loving. They are for building up, not showing off.
We do not need to manufacture anything here… We only need to respond to the Holy Spirit.
We are not a factory producing godly looking manikins, we are a greenhouse for growing disciples that stay connected to the vine!
    Three invitations:
This is a safe space to allow God to have His way, and He will if we let Him.
Invitation #1: If you know God has stirred something up in you before, but fear has shut it down- come
Invitation #2: If you don’t know your gift, but you’re hungry to be used y God- come
Invitation #3: if you want a fresh boldness to step out this year- come
    Physical posture of activation
    1. *Once they’re at the altar have them open their hands or have them lift one hand as a sign of surrender*
    2. *close their eyes*
Let’s take a minute to connect to Him. Shut out every distracting thought or thing happening in the room. Fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and prefecture of our Faith!
    *pause let silence sit*
Sometimes our silence can be more powerful than shouting.
    *pause let silence sit*
We are not chasing experiences, we are instead yielding to The Holy Spirit.
    Corporate prayer of activation
    Repeat after me….
“Holy Spirit, you are welcome here.
I desire to be connected to you.
Tonight I choose activation over stagnation.
Stir up the dormants gifts in me.
    I am available.
    I surrender my fear.
    and receive boldness.
Stir up what you've placed inside of me.
Give me courage to obey when you prompt me.
Teach me to respond when you knock.”
    Amen
    *pause let silence sit*
Now, turn to someone near you, and lay your hand on them.
This is what activating our faith through our obedience looks like!
Pray over them…“Lord use them powerfully”
Allow the spirit to move, pray for those in the altar
*If the spirit moves stronger…ask…* “Is there anyone sensing a word of encouragement for the room?”
    Close
We are NOT a plugged-in, but powered-off church!
We ARE a connected and activated church!
    We grow disciples
    plugged in to the vine…
    That embody Jesus out there.
connected and activated by His Holy Spirit…
If God has been nudging you in a specific area, take one step this week.
    One conversation.
    One prayer.
    One act of obedience.
Connection is common. Activation is intentional.
    My pastoral advice to you:
hunger grows in safety…so we need to as believers and disciple makers
    teach consistently
    model calmly
    celebrate small steps
    avoid pressurized moments
  • Hosanna
  • Holy Forever
  • All Hail King Jesus
