- The Glorious Appearing of our Lord! The Glorious Appearing of our Lord!Revelation 19:11-16Happy Father’s Day!We celebrated our Mothers Day last month and now we turn our attention to our Fathers.Fathers are much more important than the world leads us to believe. My Dad taught me many things but the most important thing he taught me was to love my Lord.Fathers teach us to trust others.A very necessary trait when it comes to our relationship with the heavenly Father.Fathers teach us courage and teach us to have confidence even when we do not think we can do a thing. How many Dads are out there cheering their kids to victory? The world would have us believe men are useless, unnecessary. But a young lady needs a father to teach her how to love as the Lord has shown us His love.Today we remember our Dads as we look once again to the book of Revelation. We often associate Jesus’ humility and perhaps even poverty as we think of his humble beginnings in the stable in Bethlehem. We sometimes even feel sorrow at the horrible things that were inflicted against Jesus Christ. Many who have been shown that picture so vividly that we forget what will occur at Christ’s second coming. But our study of Revelation has brought us to the point where Jesus’ glorious appearing is foretold.
Revelation 19:11–16 NASB 95 11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. 13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. 15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. 16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”PrayHeaven Opened v.11.Revelation 19:11 NASB 95 11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.The first time the heavens were opened it was to take a man up into heaven.John was taken up to see the things to come.He saw and wrote them down so that you and I could study them and be blessed by the Lord Jesus Christ. The next time it was to release the Lord Jesus in triumph over the earth. The first time Jesus came in humility riding a donkey being spat upon taking the form of a servant dying a death on the cross. But the 2nd time Jesus comes not on a donkey but on a white horse. He did not return defeated taking his licks. He returned the conqueror,Victorious over both sin and death he is coming again and this time the second chances will be over. The Glorious Appearance of Our Lord vv. 11-16.Jesus-Described as Faithful and True v.11-12Revelation 19:11–12 NASB 95 11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. We often bemoan the judicial system of our nation. It does have its shortcomings. But when man judges man you must expect those shortcomings. But when the Lord comes in judgement it will be with truth and faithfulness that he judges man.The liars will face the one who knows all.The hopeful churchgoer will be judged by what Christ knows to be in his/her heart. In righteousness he will judge and wage war. What will Jesus find in your heart? Is your heart faithful and true? Are you living in the righteousness of Jesus the Christ?Or will He find a heart full of worldly desires.Faithless investments.Revelation 19:12 NASB 95 12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself.V.12 His eyes are a flame of fire, his head crowned with many crowns and his name is a name that only He knows. When Christ comes those eyes will see straight trough to the soul.No guess work only the truth. The diadems are a sign of glory and realized power. The name-will be revealed when he wants it to be revealed.Revelation 19:13 NASB 95 13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.This is God’s turn.Clothed in a robe dipped in blood. Is the blood that of the wicked on the earth?Or does the blood represent His blood spilt on Calvary for your sin and mine?Either way the wicked of the earth will wish they had accepted the free gift of salvation but it will be too late then. His Name is called The Word of God.John 1:1 NASB 95 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.John 1:14 NASB 95 14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. No one will have to tell the world that this is the inerrant Word of God.It will soon be plain for everyone to see.The God of scripture will be alive forevermore and ruling the world that is his footstool. From His mouth comes a sharp sword.Jesus does not have to lift a hand in this battle that will take place. He simply speaks and the wicked fall before Him.It is in glory and great power that the Lord returns in victory over sin and death. The army following the Lord v.14.Revelation 19:14 NASB 95 14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. These armies are in heaven and are following the Lord.I want us to always remember the servant follows the master. That is true on earth as well as heaven. When Christ returns his army will be following.Who is this army? They are clothed in fine linen and riding white horses.V.8 tells us fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Those who follow the Lord will be those who have acted rightly. They are the ones who have chosen Jesus to be Lord of their lives. He is their livesNotice this army does not lift a finger in the destruction of evil. The Absolute victory vv. 15-16Revelation 19:15–16 NASB 95 15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. 16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”With the word of his mouth he strikes down the nations.By the spoken word of the Lord evil is destroyed. The army becomes simply a victory parade bringing glory and honor to their conquering hero. Then He rules them with a rod of iron.He issues forth the final outpouring of the wrath of God before the millennial kingdom is established.Vv. 17-21 tell us how this total victory is accomplished. But the important thing to note is that when this time comes there will be no second chances.Scripture is very clear. When Christ comes again in his glorious appearing those who have rejected his way of forgiveness will be destroyed.Even the birds will be filled with the flesh of those who have rejected the Lord Jesus Christ.Philippians 2:9–11 NASB 95 9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Conclusion:There is no doubt that day is coming. For many that will be a day of great victory. But for many that will be the beginning of great anguish and pain. Can you confidently say, “Come Lord Jesus, Come”?Come Jesus Come Revelation 19:11–16CSB
