    Revelation 21:22–22:5

    Big Idea: The promise of heaven, filled with God's glory and presence, provides believers with hope and purpose, empowering them to navigate life's challenges with faith.
    We are nearing the end of our study of the Revelation of Jesus Christ.
    We began with the past
    Now we are in the present age or the church age trusting God with the past and the present.
    For most of this book we have anticipated what is to come, the Glorious appearing of our Lord.
    This book has reminded us of the importance of telling everyone of the love of the Lord Jesus Christ.
    We know hell is real and real hot for all eternity.
    Heaven is also real and a real blessing for those who surrendered to the Lord Jesus Christ.
    It is still difficult for us to see what we have been shown but look with me, if you will, to the Hope Beyond the Horizon.
    Last week we talked about heaven on Earth as God created a new heaven and new earth with Jerusalem measuring 1500 cubic miles
    We continue the description of the new Jerusalem today.
    Revelation 21:22–22:5 NASB 95
    22 I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. 25 In the daytime (for there will be no night there) its gates will never be closed; 26 and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it; 27 and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. 1 Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, 2 in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3 There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him; 4 they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads. 5 And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.

    1. Presence of God Illuminates

    Can you imagine a city without a church?
    I grew up in towns and cities where a church was on almost every corner
    But not in heaven
    The whole place is the church because The Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
    Can you imagine a time where there is no need of the sun or moon?
    The older I get, the more important light is to me.
    As it gets more difficult to see, the need for light grows more important.
    But heaven is filled with the glory of the Lord.
    When it is all said and done, God's presence is the ultimate source of comfort and security; therefore, there is no need for a temple.
    When we have the direct, intimate connection that all believers will have with God, then His glorious light dispels all darkness.
    Our current struggles will pale in comparison to the joy of dwelling in God's immediate presence.

    2. Peace for All Nations

    Revelation 21:24–25 NASB 95
    24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. 25 In the daytime (for there will be no night there) its gates will never be closed;
    Darkness is always a source of anxiety
    tell of Dawn walking back home after visiting parents, back to the trailer
    According to this scripture there is no darkness in heaven at all.
    The nations, the various peoples walk now by the light of God and the Lamb.
    Their glory illumines heaven now.
    Peace is represented by the fact that the gates of heaven are never closed.
    When there is no darkness there is no sin.
    No need for anxiety
    No need for security
    We are resting in total absolute security for all eternity in heaven.

    3. Purity in God's Presence

    Revelation 21:26–27 NASB 95
    26 and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it; 27 and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
    Heaven has always been pure
    But heaven on Earth will remain just as pure, even more so, then the heaven that was destroyed.
    Nothing unclean, no abominations or lying will come into heaven.
    Only those whose name is written in the Lamb’s book of life.
    You and I need to take this part to heart.
    Nothing unclean or impure can enter heaven.
    No false god.
    No one who worships anything but God can enter heaven.
    Many people do not understand this truth.
    For many becoming a Christian is simply joining a church.
    When we are baptized we are now a member of the church.
    That is true.
    Having your name written on the roll of the church is not the same as having your name written in the Lamb’s book of Life.
    To have your name written in the Lamb’s book of life means
    John 3:16 NASB 95
    16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
    Believe is a strong term.
    Belief changes lives.
    Malachi 3:16 NASB 95
    16 Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord gave attention and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the Lord and who esteem His name.
    Those who fear the Lord
    Those who esteem His Name
    These are the ones whose names are found written in the Lamb’s book of life.
    Your duty and mine is to see to it that everyone we know will have heard the good news of the gospel.

    4. Promise of Renewal

    Revelation 22:1–2 NASB 95
    1 Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, 2 in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
    The river of the water of life
    It is crystal clear
    It flows from the throne of God and the Lamb.
    Water is always a necessity in this world and is apparently from God Himself in the new Jerusalem.
    This river will flow in the middle of the street.
    On either side of the river was the tree of life.
    You remember the importance of the tree of life in Genesis
    It gave those who partook of it eternal life.
    Adam and Eve were driven from the garden because it contained the tree of life.
    They could not partake of that tree because they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil after they were forbidden to eat of it.
    In heaven though this tree of life is available to all.
    It bears fruit all year round monthly.
    No one is forbidden to eat of this tree.
    Even its leaves provide health for those in heaven.

    5. Power of Eternal Reign

    Revelation 22:3 NASB 95
    3 There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him;
    Finally the curse is over.
    The curse that began with sin in the garden is no longer.
    You and I will no longer face temptation nor disease.
    Aging will be a thing of the past.
    Just as Adam and Eve could walk with God, so will we be able to walk with God for He is with us in person.
    You and I, His bond-servants, will serve our Lord.
    Service will be from love, not fear.
    Revelation 22:4 NASB 95
    4 they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.
    We will not fear God even though we see Him face to face.
    His name will be on our foreheads.
    This is because of our surrender to Him in life.
    Now we surrender in heaven and He is our King.
    Revelation 22:5 NASB 95
    5 And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.
    Listen to how long heaven lasts.

    Conclusion

    Heaven is real. It is real good.
    There is no one who could not benefit from the truth about heaven.
    Tell everyone so that this baptistry will be full week after week.
    People are longing to serve our Lord and Savior.
    Christ is the ultimate fulfillment of God's promise to be present with His people.
    Jesus is our hope over the horizon.
