    2 Chronicles 7:12-14
    Have you noticed how much blaming goes on in our world today? For instance...
    We can't keep the criminals from crime because of the poverty in which they live.
    Crime is on the rise because of fatherless homes.
    Fatherless homes are on the rise because of welfare.
    Welfare is on the rise because of all the crooks on the system.
    Where does the blame stop?
    I believe it stops with you and I, the church.
    2 Chronicles 7:14, which I hope all of you will memorize over the next few weeks, lays the blame for the nations ills squarely on the backs of My People Who are Called by My Name
    Today we will look at Who My People Who are Called by My Name, really are
    Then we will ask could it be that all this nation's problems are my fault?
    Throughout the coming weeks we will see just what we, as Christians can do to change this nation.
    Background
    Solomon was dedicating the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem.
    He prayed for God to inhabit the temple and would bless the nation.
    This is the Lord’s response.
    2 Chronicles 7:12–14 NASB 95
    12 Then the Lord appeared to Solomon at night and said to him, “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice. 13 If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, 14 and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
    Who are My People?

    A kingdom of Priests, A holy Nation

    Exodus 19:5–6 NASB 95
    5 ‘Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; 6 and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”
    God intended for his people to be different from the rest of the world.
    A kingdom of priests meant this people had a special relationship with God.
    What God intended was for them to be so different that other people would come to them asking who their God was.
    They were to be holy, set apart.
    Israel is the name Jacob was changed to meaning-God strives.
    The people of Israel were to be set apart.
    They were to be different from all the others because they were chosen by God.
    God prepared his people...
    In the OT he did so by delivering them from horrible task masters in Egypt.
    The miraculous journey through the wilderness
    The near impossible conquering of the people in the promised land.
    In the NT he planned something quite different.

    John The Baptist Prepared hearts to become a Holy Nation

    Luke 1:17 NASB 95
    17 It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to the children, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
    These are the words of an angel of the Lord to John’s father Zacharias.
    God prepares His people for Himself.
    Here He sent John as a forerunner for the Lord Jesus Christ.
    God sends his people to prepare hearts.
    Why are you and I here today?
    To prepare hearts for the Lord's return.
    John the Baptist prepared the hearts of God's people for Jesus.
    When Jesus came a new covenant was written.
    That Holy Nation NOW has the Law written in Their hearts
    Hebrews 8:10 NASB 95
    10 “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel After those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their minds, And I will write them on their hearts. And I will be their God, And they shall be My people.
    No longer did they need the priests to intercede on their behalf.
    No longer did they need sacrifices to atone for their sin.
    Now, God's people have the law in their hearts and in their minds because they are God's people.
    God's people, they are a kingdom of priests who have hearts prepared and the law written upon them.

    God's chosen people

    Deuteronomy 14:2 NASB 95
    2 For you are a holy people to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.
    Of all the people in the world God chose Israel to be His people.
    So has He chosen us to be His people.
    God guides his chosen people
    Psalm 78:52 NASB 95
    52 But He led forth His own people like sheep And guided them in the wilderness like a flock;
    Throughout the wilderness experience God kept them safe.
    Never did their clothes or shoes wear out.
    Always God guided his people. Why?
    God is the one who made his people
    Psalm 100:3 NASB 95
    3 Know that the Lord Himself is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
    My People Who are Called by My Name are made by God.
    It is not something that man can do.
    God's people sometimes try to think that God had to choose them because they were so good.
    Plainly God chose his people because he wanted to.
    My People Who are Called by My Name are a treasured possession
    Deuteronomy 26:18 NASB 95
    18 The Lord has today declared you to be His people, a treasured possession, as He promised you, and that you should keep all His commandments;
    My People Who are Called by My Name are so treasured that He sacrificed His only Son.
    Titus 2:13–14 NASB 95
    13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, 14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
    My People Who are Called by My Name are not worthy of such sacrifice.
    But that didn't stop God.
    God chose us and that is what makes us treasured possessions
    1 Peter 2:9–10 NASB 95
    9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

    Are you My People who are called by My Name?

    A kingdom of Priests, A holy Nation
    A people whose hearts have been prepared by God's man.
    Some are in church this morning looking to see what the church has to offer.
    Others are in church this morning to give what God has given them that others might know Jesus better.
    To be My People Who are Called by My Name your heart must be prepared.
    John the Baptist spoke of repentance and baptism
    This morning, is your heart prepared because you have repented of your sin?
    You've realized you're a sinner
    In your heart you have said, "I want the glory of God more than even my own dreams?"
    With that repentance God has helped you by promising to provide a way out of temptation.
    1 Corinthians 10:13 NASB 95
    13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

    Are you My People who are called by My Name?

    A people who have God's law written on their hearts and placed in their minds.
    My People Who are Called by My Name live God's word.
    In this day and time people think they do that by being good.
    Being good is not bad but it is not necessarily living God's word either.
    My People Who are Called by My Name have God's word imprinted on their hearts why
    Psalm 119:11 NASB 95
    11 Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You.
    My People Who are Called by My Name are simply different.
    We are no longer concerned about being someone's doormat
    We have grown to love our neighbor as ourselves.
    Regardless of color, social standing, or habits we love our neighbor as ourselves.

    Are you My People Who are Called by My Name?

    God's chosen people
    Made By God?
    Sure, we'll admit to that.
    But do we really act as though we are sheep of his pasture?
    Sheep are led by their master
    Are you led by God?
    Well sure, I go to church, I give my money, I help others.
    God has chosen us and wants us to look to him for guidance in every area of our lives.
    For me that means in the area of driving.
    For others it may be in the area of who or what we trust to keep us comfortable.
    For some it may be in the way you spend your money or save for a rainy day.
    My People Who are Called by My Name are like sheep in the Master's pasture and we listen to his every word.

    We are God's treasured possession

    So treasured he gave his only son to redeem them.
    Regardless of our sin or guilt he died in our stead.
    My People Who are Called by My Name have a Savior who took the penalty we deserve
    God's people are a treasured possession because he made them his treasure.

    Conclusion

    When "My People Who are Called by My Name humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
    Are you My People Who are Called by My Name
    A treasured possession because God made you?
    Chosen because God wanted to make you his own?
    A priest that is holy and different from the world?
    The reason this world is as it is, is because of My People Who are Called by My Name
    Today I am asking My People Who are Called by My Name to live up to being called God's people.
    Are you making the sacrifice necessary to be alone with the Father?
    Are you asking God to give you a deep sense of His presence?
    Are you sensitive to the HS guiding you away from sin and into the glorious light?
    Maybe today you need to repent of the evil you have allowed to fester in your heart.
    Maybe today you realize you have never surrendered your life to the Lord.
    Will you today, surrender your all?
