- Your Mission should you choose to accept it is: Matthew 28:19-20
Matthew 28:19–20 ESV 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”1. Renewed Mission MindsetRomans 12:1–2 ESV 1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.Matthew 28:19–20 ESV 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”This year I see our church renewing our mission mindsetWe as a church need to be transformed by the Lord and renewed within our heartsThe mission should we choose to accept itAs I spoke about a few weeks ago we have lost track of our missionThe spiritual mission of the churchwe are empowered and transformed by the almighty Godas Paul says here in Romans 12We are called to live to a specific standardThus the if you are willing to accept itThis is a powerful questionThis involves taking in the informationassessing the risk of the situationdeciding to follow and obeyor deciding to reject2. Rooted DisciplesActs 16:1–5 ESV 1 Paul came also to Derbe and to Lystra. A disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek. 2 He was well spoken of by the brothers at Lystra and Iconium. 3 Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him, and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those places, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. 4 As they went on their way through the cities, they delivered to them for observance the decisions that had been reached by the apostles and elders who were in Jerusalem. 5 So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and they increased in numbers daily.Acts 18:24–28 ESV 24 Now a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, competent in the Scriptures. 25 He had been instructed in the way of the Lord. And being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue, but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. 27 And when he wished to cross to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote to the disciples to welcome him. When he arrived, he greatly helped those who through grace had believed, 28 for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, showing by the Scriptures that the Christ was Jesus.Next the vision I have is that we become a church of rooted disciplesWe need to work on not just church discipleshipbut relational discipleshipWe are a body of believers called to build one another upThis does not just happen at churchIt happens in homesat lunchat coffeein familiesin conversationsit happens in everyday lifeThis year we are going to work on building up disciples within the churchpromoting a structure of 1-1 disciple making and mentorshipThis will better equip us for the work of the Father in our community and help us to be3. Radiating UnityActs 2:41–47 ESV 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. 42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. There is no such thing as a perfectly unified churchthis side of heaveninstead we have brokennessbut the church of Acts 2 was the closestWhether you believe it or not there is no such thing as a perfectly unified churchI am not saying we are ununifiedInstead I am saying we should not be satisfied with our unityWe need to be striving for ChristStriving for unity as a bodyWorking out our differences instead of running to the next placeThis is a body of believers that is supposed to be a familyyou don’t have to like each otherour beliefs may even differ slightly on more minor issuesbut the reality is we must get alongwhen the church cannot get along it bleeds outside the wallsit negatively impacts the reach of that churchWe are all the churchfounded on the core principles of the Gospel of Jesus ChristHow do we unify?Through the Spiritthrough moving past Sunday only attendanceand moving into active involvementthrough praying and worshipping togetherthrough sharing one another's burdensthrough knowing one another instead of hellos in passingWorking together for the benefit of the Kingdom of God!
