- GOD’S TIMELINE VS. MAN’S SCIENCEA Biblical Defense of the Beginning and the Glory of GodPrimary Scripture ReadingText: Genesis 1:1–5 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth…”
Genesis 1:1–5 KJV 1900 1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.IntroductionFrom the first verse of Scripture, God confronts humanity with a choice: Will you believe the revealed Word of God, or the theories of men?“In the beginning God…” Those four words establish the foundation of all truth, all existence, all time, all history, all life, and all purpose. There is no randomness. No cosmic chaos. No accidental explosion. No blind evolution. The Hebrew word for created is bara (בָּרָא) — Strong’s H1254 — meaning:to create out of nothingto bring into existence what did not existcreation that requires divine powerMan can build, construct, and manufacture—but only God can bara.Science claims the universe began with a Big Bang. Scripture declares it began with a big God. Science claims the world formed slowly over billions of years. Scripture declares God formed it through His Word in six literal days. This sermon will contrast:God’s revealed timelineMan’s imagined timeline…so that we can recognize the glory, the authority, and the intentional design of the Creator Himself.Main Points1. God’s Creation: Quick, Powerful, Literal, IntentionalScripture: Genesis 1–2 (KJV)God’s timeline is specific, not symbolic. Scripture uses the phrase: “the evening and the morning were the first day.”In Hebrew:yôm (יוֹם) — a 24-hour day when paired with a number or “evening/morning.”Used over 2,000 times in the Old Testament the same way.Every time “day” is numbered in the Old Testament, it is literal—not figurative.God’s Timeline (Biblical):Day 1: Light created before the sun (showing God, not stars, is the source of light) Day 2: Atmosphere and waters divided Day 3: Dry land, seas, vegetation Day 4: Sun, moon, and stars placed with purpose and order Day 5: Creatures of the sea and sky Day 6: Land animals and humanity, formed in God's image Day 7: God rested—He ceased from creating, establishing the Sabbath patternGod created with:1. Order – nothing random 2. Purpose – nothing wasted 3. Power – nothing struggled 4. Finality – nothing evolvedGod did not experiment. He commanded. He did not discover. He designed. He did not observe. He originated.2. Man’s Version of Creation: Guesswork, Speculation, and InconsistencyScripture: Romans 1:22 (KJV)“Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.”Man’s creation story changes every decade. Textbooks change. Theories shift. Assumptions collapse. But one thing remains consistent: man’s desperate attempt to create a universe without God.Scientific Timeline (Man’s):Big Bang — an explosion with no cause created everything from nothingCosmic Inflation — space expands rapidly and randomlyFormation of Stars — gravity pulls dust together over billions of yearsFormation of Earth — a chunk of rock cooling in spacePrimordial Soup — life forms from chemicals by accidentEvolution — single-cell organisms eventually “become” humansScientifically, every step requires:unknown forcesunseen conditionsunprovable assumptionsEven secular scientists admit they do not know:what existed before the Big Bangwhat caused itwhat laws of physics applied before the universe beganhow life came from non-living matterwhy the universe is mathematically fine-tunedEvolution requires billions of years because it cannot occur in a literal timeline. But God requires no time to accomplish His will.God creates instantly. Man requires time to make theories sound plausible.3. The Glory of God vs. the Glory of ManScripture: Psalm 19:1 (KJV)“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.”Creation reveals God’s glory, not human brilliance. But man’s theories elevate the glory of:random chancenaturetimeevolutionary progresscosmic accidentWhen man removes God from creation, he becomes his own god by default.**Biblical Creation glorifies God.Man’s Creation glorifies man.**Biblical Creation teaches:intentional designdivine purposeinstant authorityAlmighty powerimage-bearing humanityMan’s Creation teaches:purposeless existencesurvival by brutalityprogress by deathhuman superiority as cosmic accidentsmoral accountability to no oneThis is why evolution is not purely scientific—it is philosophical rebellion. It removes the need for a Creator. It removes the need for judgment. It removes the need for repentance. It removes the need for salvation.4. Scientific Problems With the Man-Made TimelineA. The First Law of ThermodynamicsMatter cannot create itself. The Big Bang requires everything to come from nothing without a cause. This contradicts the laws of physics God created.B. The Second Law of ThermodynamicsThings move from order to disorder over time. Evolution requires the opposite: disorder turning into order, complexity, and intelligence.C. DNA ComplexityThe smallest cell is more complex than any human-made machine. Information requires an Information Giver.D. Fine-Tuning of the UniverseIf one constant changed by the smallest fraction, life could not exist. This indicates intentional design.E. No Transitional FossilsDarwin required “millions of transitional forms.” They do not exist.F. Human UniquenessThe mind, soul, conscience, morality, music, language, love—all point beyond biology.**Man’s timeline ignores all these contradictions.God’s timeline answers all of them.**5. The Purpose of Creation: Revelation of the Creator HimselfScripture: Isaiah 45:18 (KJV)“For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it… He created it not in vain…”God did not create the universe to confuse us. He created it to reveal Himself:His wisdomHis orderHis beautyHis authorityHis loveHis eternal powerCreation is a temple in which God displays His glory.Humanity is not the product of cosmic accident—we are the image of God, placed in His world to know Him and reflect Him.Man’s timeline removes purpose. God’s timeline restores purpose.ApplicationBelieve the Word above the world. Science changes; Scripture stands forever.Recognize your divine design. You were formed intentionally, not accidentally.Let creation lead you to worship. Every sunrise preaches. Every star testifies. Every breath declares: God is real.Live with divine purpose. If God designed creation, He surely designed you. Your life is not meaningless—you are handcrafted for His glory.Stand boldly in a culture that denies creation. We must declare without shame: “In the beginning, God.”Call to ActionThere is a war in our generation over the beginning because whoever controls the beginning controls the meaning of life. The enemy wants to erase the Creator so he can distort creation. But the Spirit of God is calling His people back to Genesis—to a faith that believes the Word as written.God is raising up a people who will not bow to the theories of men but will stand upon the revelation of God. The Lord says:“Return to My Word, honor My creation, and My glory will be revealed again in My church.”Lift your eyes. Look at the heavens. See the fingerprints of God on every horizon. The same God who spoke creation into existence is still speaking today—and what He speaks into your life will come to pass with the same power that formed the universe.Closing QuoteA.W. Tozer: “Believing in God as Creator gives meaning to everything. Remove the Creator, and you remove the purpose of creation.” Genesis 1:1–5NKJV
