- THE LAMB REVEALED — THE FULFILLMENT OF PASSOVER IN CHRISTPrimary Scripture Reading
John 1:29 KJV 1900 29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.Exodus 12:3–13 (KJV)INTRODUCTIONIn the first session, we established that Passover is God’s defined pattern of redemption—centered on the lamb, the blood, and obedience. But Passover was never meant to stand alone. It was a shadow pointing forward to a greater reality. When John the Baptist saw Jesus, he did not introduce Him as a teacher, prophet, or reformer. He made a very specific declaration:John 1:29“Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”That statement only makes sense through Passover.John was identifying Jesus as the fulfillment of everything Exodus 12 established. Not symbolic fulfillment—but complete, exact, and intentional fulfillment. This session will walk through Scripture and show that Jesus did not loosely resemble the Passover lamb—He fulfilled it precisely according to God’s pattern.THE LAMB WAS CHOSEN BEFORE THE DAY OF SACRIFICEScripture: Exodus 12:3, 6“In the tenth day… they shall take to them every man a lamb… and keep it until the fourteenth day…”The lamb was selected, then examined over time before it was sacrificed. Now look at Jesus:Luke 19:37–38Jesus enters Jerusalem (commonly called the triumphal entry), presenting Himself publicly. From that moment until His crucifixion, He is:– questioned by Pharisees– examined by scribes– tested by leaders– scrutinized by the peopleLuke 23:4“I find no fault in this man.”The pattern holds:The Lamb is chosen, then proven. This was not coincidence—it was divine alignment.THE LAMB HAD TO BE WITHOUT BLEMISHScripture: Exodus 12:5“Your lamb shall be without blemish…”Strong’s H8549 – complete, whole, without defectNow look at Christ:1 Peter 1:18–19“…the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot”Jesus was not simply morally good—He was without defect in the sight of God.Hebrews 4:15“…yet without sin”Passover demanded perfection.Jesus met that demand completely.THE LAMB WAS SLAIN AT THE APPOINTED TIMEScripture: Exodus 12:6“…the whole assembly… shall kill it in the evening”The timing of Passover was not flexible. It was precise. Now consider:Matthew 26:2“…after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.”Jesus is crucified during Passover. This is critical:He did not die randomly. He died in alignment with Passover.God did not adjust Passover to fit Jesus—Jesus fulfilled the exact timing God had already established.NOT A BONE OF THE LAMB WAS TO BE BROKENScripture: Exodus 12:46“…neither shall ye break a bone thereof”Now look at the crucifixion:John 19:33, 36“But when they came to Jesus… they brake not his legs… For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.”Roman crucifixion often involved breaking the legs to hasten death. But Jesus was already dead.Again, not coincidence—fulfillment.Even in death, He aligns with Passover instruction.THE BLOOD STILL DETERMINES THE OUTCOMEScripture: Exodus 12:13“When I see the blood, I will pass over you…”Now in Christ:Romans 5:9“Being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”Hebrews 9:22“…without shedding of blood is no remission”The principle has not changed:– It was blood in Egypt– It is blood in ChristThe difference is not the removal of the requirement, but the perfection of the sacrifice. The blood of animals covered temporarily. The blood of Christ redeems completely.PASSOVER MOVES FROM HOUSEHOLDS TO HEARTSIn Exodus:The blood was applied to the doorpost. In Christ:The application is no longer external—it is internal and covenantal.Hebrews 10:16“I will put my laws into their hearts…”But the principle remains:It must be applied. Not admired. Not discussed. Not intellectually agreed with.Applied.This is where modern misunderstanding often occurs.People acknowledge Jesus, but Scripture calls for alignment, surrender, and transformation under what His blood accomplished.“LET US KEEP THE FEAST” — THE CONTINUING PRINCIPLEScripture: 1 Corinthians 5:7–8“Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: therefore let us keep the feast…”Paul does not point backward to ritual—he points forward to reality.“…not with old leaven… but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”Leaven represents corruption, sin, mixture. The instruction is clear:Because Christ is our Passover, we are to remove what corrupts. This is where fulfillment becomes responsibility.APPLICATIONIf Christ is the Passover Lamb, then:– The blood is not optional– The standard has not lowered– The call to come out still standsYou cannot claim the Lamb and keep the leaven. You cannot claim the blood and remain unchanged.Passover fulfilled in Christ does not make obedience unnecessary—it makes it unavoidable.CLOSING INSIGHTThere is a version of Christianity that celebrates the Lamb but ignores the pattern. It speaks of grace but avoids transformation. It acknowledges the cross but resists surrender. But Scripture is clear:If He is the Lamb, then His blood demands alignment. The same God who said,“When I see the blood…”is the same God who now looks for a life marked by what that blood accomplished. This is not about ritual—it is about reality. The question is not:Do you believe Jesus died? The question is:Has His sacrifice changed how you live?“The cross is not merely a place where Jesus died; it is the place where the believer dies with Him.”— A.
