  • Our Vision: to grow a multi-ethnic , multicultural movement that manifests the kingdom of God

Our mission: Love God and Love People

Our Values: Belonging, Deployment, Transformation and Sacrifice

Today I am going to be talking about Transformation and sacrifice
Lets start with a reminder of what we mean when we say transformation:

    1. Transformation – Investing in change of lives , communities and cultures as a result of divine encounters with Jesus

    A. We depend on the work of the Holy Spirit

    1: Salvation
    John 16:8 ESV
8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
Dead in sin, we need to be made alive.
    2. sanctification (being made holy)
we cant be holy, our only hope for it is through the supernatural work of the Holy spirit in us
    Ephesians 4:21–23 ESV
21 assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, 22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
becasue we depend on the Holy Sprit and not ourselves…

    B. We believe there is hope for ANYONE

    1 Corinthians 6:9–11 (ESV)
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
    Uh OH
11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Our sin is big, God's grace is bigger.

    C. We don't expect (or believe) that you are perfect

    (All have sinned)
    Romans 3:23 ESV
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
    i. we love you. You wont be looked down on and excluded
ii. because we love you we're not ok with sin and want you to be transformed and live a holy and abundant life so we are not going to pretend your’e ok when we all know none of us are.
    Galatians 6:1–2 ESV
1 Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

    D. Things get messy

    Hard conversations
    Uncomfortable preaching
You are going to get mud on you

    E. We celebrate growth

    Victory over sin
    Sobriety
    restored relationships
    change in attitude and outlook
So what does that mean for you?
Real transformation is possible, and we expect that you will be changed!
Transformation takes place in fellowship with God’s people and from knowing God’s Word
You need to walk closely with God and know his Word, If God commands it, he enables it, Sin can be put off

    2. Sacrifice – Servants outpouring of their time, gifts and resources into all those they encounter .

Sacrifice is one of the core concepts of scripture. Here’s why its so important.

The story of the Gospel is a story of sacrifice

Because we sin, there was a payment due to satisfy the just wrath of God. Jesus gave himself as a GIFT and was the perfect sacrifice.
    Romans 6:23 ESV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
So it’s central to the gospel but it’s also central to being a disciple.
Being a Christ follower = being a sacrifice
I have heard it said many times “it is expensive to be a follower of Jesus” ...it’s more than expensive, it will cost you everything.
    Matthew 19:16–22 ESV
16 And behold, a man came up to him, saying, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?” 17 And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 He said to him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, 19 Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 20 The young man said to him, “All these I have kept. What do I still lack?” 21 Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22 When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
this was a good boy. This was a church kid. This was a good citizen, a boy scout. he had given up a lot and PROBABLY it had already been “expensive” But that was not enough. Jesus said you can’t hold anything back.
To be a disciple means that you have realized that EVErything of the world is NOTHING and Jesus is EVERYTHING.
    1. We believe that we are a to offer up our bodies as a living sacrifice.
    Romans 12:1–2 ESV
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Our old self is dead. our new self exists for a different purpose.
    2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
When we come to faith in Jesus we are literally laying down our lives.
    Galatians 2:20 ESV
20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
    2. We believe that our good works and sacrificial lifestyle are a light to the world
    Matthew 5:16 ESV
16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
    Display the wisdom of God
    3. We believe that We should sacrifice ourselves for the sake of body
    John 15:13 ESV
13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
    bear with one another
    Colossians 3:12–13 ESV
12 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
to be humble, to be kind, to be patient and merciful is to sacrifice your right to comfort, satisfaction, and fairness.
It is a gift, a sacrifice.
