What Can I Give
1 Samuel 7:12ESV
1 Samuel 7:15–17ESV
- Caleb WoodrumJohn 19:16-27Love Bears the Weight of Sacrifice (John 19:17–18)“Carrying His own cross, He went out to the place of the Skull… There they crucified Him.”Jesus carried the literal weight of the cross, but more importantly, He carried the spiritual burden of humanity’s sin.His love for us didn’t ask, “How much is too much?” Instead, He willingly endured the ultimate sacrifice.True love often demands sacrifice—of time, comfort, or self-interest.Jesus gave His life for us. Is there anything we would not willing to give for Him and others?“What can I give?” Are there burdens we are bein g called to carry on behalf of others?Love Sees Beyond the Pain (John 19:25–26)“Near the cross of Jesus stood His mother, His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw His mother there…”In the midst of unimaginable physical and emotional pain, Jesus didn’t focus inward.Instead, He saw His mother and responded with compassion and care. His love extended beyond His suffering. When we’re in difficult situations, it’s tempting to focus solely on our pain. But Christ calls us to lift our eyes, see others in need, and love them even when we’re hurting.Who might God be asking you to see today? What can I Give? Sometimes, it’s the gift of attention and care, even when we’re hurting.Love Provides for the Future (John 19:26–27)“He said to her, ‘Woman, here is your son,’ and to the disciple, ‘Here is your mother.’ From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.”Jesus entrusted Mary to John’s care, ensuring she would be looked after when He was gone. His love didn’t stop at the cross—it planned for the future.Loving others means thinking ahead, doing what we can to ensure their needs are met not just for today but for tomorrow — and eternally. How can we provide for those we love—not just physically, but spiritually and emotionally?“What can I give?” — The greatest gift of all is the gift of Jesus. What can I give?Jesus’ actions on the cross show us that love always asks, “What can I give?” and He gave everything for us.What burdens might God be calling us to carry for others?Who might God be asking us to see in the middle of our own struggles? How can we plan to love others not just today, but for the future — and eternally.Let’s take up the challenge of love that gives, love that sacrifices, and love that provides—because Jesus first loved us. “Love asks, ‘What can I give?’” What will your answer be?
