    Psalm 16:1–11 NKJV
    1 Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust. 2 O my soul, you have said to the Lord, “You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.” 3 As for the saints who are on the earth, “They are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight.” 4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another god; Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer, Nor take up their names on my lips. 5 O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot. 6 The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Yes, I have a good inheritance. 7 I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel; My heart also instructs me in the night seasons. 8 I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope. 10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. 11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
    Big Idea: We do not live in a reality where our faith cannot be tested. We don’t find an hour where our faith can’t be tried. But we do live with a hope that our faith cannot be shaken.

    There are many people who are:
    prisoners to their emotions
    prisoners to the darkness in their minds.
    Prisoners to their perceptions of Reality

    I. Refuge in the Redeemer

    Psalm 16:1 NKJV
    1 Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust.

    Preserve = watchover and protect
    A. The call for preservation implies the plsamist cannot preserve himself. We need to realize God’s strength and our weaknesses.When we are facing crises, proper perspective allows us to keep expectations in their proper place.
    Power Principle: Disappointment comes from misappropriated expectations.
    We need to remember that we are not God. We are not built or expected to handle his burden.
    I am Dependent
    The Psalmist does not stake his preservation in his own ability but rather in his Trust. He is saying “preserve me, for I have placed my faith in you!”
    Power Principle: We must abandon the idea of total self reliance and add the reality of “God dependence”.
    James 4:13–15 NKJV
    13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.”
    We should always keep our lives connected and grounded to God. He should be the source of our trust. We do not abandon the idea of personal responsibility. But we leave the pressure of the outcomes to God.
    Psalm 27:5 NKJV
    5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.
    When this is our posture, pressure does not make us fold. It makes us run to God.
    We pray rather than Panic
    God becomes our first Resort
    Worship will replace worry
    Psalm 46:1 NKJV
    1 God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.
    Proverbs 18:10 NKJV
    10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.
    Isaiah 41:10 NKJV
    10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

    II. I Choose God

    A. Who is really in control?

    We must ask ourselves a question. Does God have complete authority over our life? Is God’s truth the only source of information I trust?
    Our emotions are a source of information
    Our fears are a source of information
    Our past traumas are a source of information that we often cross reference our CURRENT experiences to.
    Write this down:
    If God truly has full authority we must submit our reactions and responses to the truth of His word and not our external stimuli nor our internal brokeness. This does not invalidate the reality of what we feel. It invalidates the truth of the feeling itself. In other words, when we feel fear we actually feel it. But that fear could be based on False premise. When we don’t trust God’s truth we will begin to make Good decisions with Bad information.
    Vs 3 and 4 shows us the result of two different types of people. Those that trust in God and Those who trust other sources and allow those sources to become their God.
    Everyone worships. The object just of worship varies.
    Many people are worshipping things that can be shaken. Therefore when it is shaken we are shaken. There is nothing wrong with enjoy a good sports game. But when our team loses, does it ruin our whole week? How do I know what I worship? What makes me angry when it is attacked.
    A few examples of things that are worshipped:
    Money
    Success
    Politics
    Comfort
    Relationships
    Self
    If any of those subjects make us uncomfortable to see on the screen, that may reveal a lower case g “god” in our life. If we are to live fruitful, stable lives, we cannot build the foundations of our souls (mind, will, emotions) with bad material.
    Power Principle: When will build our hope on the right foundations we may be jostled. But we will not shaken.

    3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.
    Matthew 6:24 NKJV
    24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
    1 John 5:21 NKJV
    21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

    III. God is Still Enough

    Psalm 16:5–6 NKJV
    5 O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot. 6 The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Yes, I have a good inheritance.
    The tribes except Levi got an inheritance. God was their inheritance. David uses this visual imagery to suggest God was his inheritance.
    God is my share
    God is my possession
    God is my portion
    He is my Lot or by future
    My Destiny
    In simple terms:
    God is enough!
    Power Principle: Our biggest blessing is what God gives and how God intervenes. The greatest blessing Is God Alone!

    25 Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. 26 My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

    When God becomes your portion and safe place, the same situations that held you captive, will propel you into
