    I want to encourage you to listen to Jack Hibbs latest message from Wednesday. He offers some interesting insights on Ezekiel 38 and what’s happening between China and Iran.
    As you know, it is our desire to study the bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book. Currently, we are studying the New Testament as it was written historically.
    Currently, we are in Luke 13 - bibles? so turn there -- I am teaching from the Legacy Standard [NASB update] and I will show the translation on the slides as we go.
    We are learning that Yeshua is traveling south from Galilee headed toward Jerusalem to face more confrontation and eventually the crucifixion. He’s been exhorting the common people of Israel that time was running out and urging them to repent lest they perish.
    But like today, apathy can set in, and being raised to respect your rabbi added to the problem.
    When Jesus showed up He brought life and joy to a crowd! He taught, He healed and to the people’s delight, He stood up to the legalistic leaders.
    But they often treated His ministry like it was entertainment, most would follow Him hoping to see a miracle, or maybe another meal!
    However, as young Israel discovered in the wilderness, signs & miracles did not produce faith.
    Little did these people know, they were living on borrowed time. - same is true for us.
    Our old friend Don Norris went to heaven on July 15 -Sharon, Stacey had just seen Don at Walmart days before and I saw him just before the parade.
    Yet on July 14 he went to bed and never woke up. Don & Shirley attended here for about 10 years. They were a bundle of fun!
    Shirley died in 2021 and Don struggled for 5 years without her and he did well. But now, they’re both in heaven.
    My point is, we are all on borrowed time. And Jesus knew this about Israel. Time was running out.
    There was a Christian band called “White Cross” that wrote a song about the rich man and Lazarus. The chorus has the rich man begging to go back to earth to warn his brothers “Just one more chance to do things right, just one more chance I’ll follow the light!” But there’s no second chances, the host of heaven cried; no second chances, you listened to lies!”
    True, we have many chances to get right with the Lord when we’re alive but once we die, our fate is sealed.
    These chosen people were under a flawed religious system and Yeshua rebuked their elders they “made void the word of God by their traditions”. So for these religious men, there was no room for joy if people were healed on the Sabbath or forgiven of sins before rising up and walking.
    At their local synagogue nothing like this had ever happened until now.
    KIM: This was such a dark period for the Jewish people and finally they had a hero on their side. But the problem was what they were taught to rely on their self-righteousness. Yes, they were sons of Abraham, God’s chosen people but their own prophets stated they weren’t righteous before God.

    For all of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; ...

    ...They have all turned aside, altogether they have become worthless; There is no one who does good, not even one.
    Even today, many who grow up in church, maybe their dad was a pastor, they went to Christian school and assumed they were a shoe-in for salvation.
    We once had a gal like that attending here and she even went to bible college yet as she sat under the teachings here, conviction grew and she realized she never actually repented before God and broke down before the Lord and accepted Him. It’s a beautiful story but a sad one. So it still happens today.
    But Yeshua still beseeches the people to repent or they will perish.
    So the next few chapters Jesus continues to say they are running out of time....vs 22-24
    Luke 13:22–24 LSB
    And He was passing through from one city and village to another, teaching, and proceeding on His way to Jerusalem. And someone said to Him, “Lord, are there just a few who are being saved?” And He said to them, “Strive to enter through the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.
    This is a question often asked today by people.
    The Greek word “Strive” is “ogo-neezamy” -where we get our word “agonize!” - it means to contend for a prize, struggle or fight!
    This is not to be confused with the narrow gate spoken of in Matthew 7.14
    So what’s the difference?- A gate is what you go through at the beginning of the journey - but a narrow gate is more difficult
    A narrow door emphasizes access to a home, a family, or a kingdom. In order to get thru, you have to squeeze through or walk side ways, knock and be welcomed in!
    You recall in the gospel of John; Yeshua referred to Himself as the door

    So Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. “All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
    Many religions like the Baha'i Faith strongly embrace universalism, meaning all doors eventually lead to God. Some religions include Satan’s redemption!
    But imagine the horror of trusting your rabbi, priest, Imam, or monk only to find out you were robbed of salvation.
    You see, all the works-based religions teach you can be saved or worthy enough because there’s a little bit of good in everyone, they belong to a special religious order, a church denomination, gave out literature, or you rode bikes to share a different gospel. No wonder Jesus warned “be not deceived”. Many will coming in My “name”.
    So is their relationship with Jesus or an organization?
    What happens to those people with good intentions?
    Verse 25
    Luke 13:25–27 LSB
    “Once the head of the house gets up and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock on the door, saying, ‘Lord, open up to us!’ then He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know where you are from.’ “Then you [Israel] will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’ “And He will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you are from; depart from Me, all you workers of unrighteousness.’
    While Jesus is addressing Israel at this time: Today we have Islam and Christian cults JW’s, Mormons, SDA, and they all have one thing in common - They are all a works-based religion.
    They believe in a different gospel, a different Jesus or many Gods and depending on your faithful service and obedience to the organization you can prove yourself worthy!!
    This is why Yeshua will say “I don’t know you!” “Who are you?” because they were workers of self-righteousness.
    This is what Yeshua is trying to prevent them from experiencing this and He tells them straight out.
    Luke 13:28–29 LSB
    “In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves being cast out. “And they will come from east and west and from north and south, and will recline at the table in the kingdom of God.
    Weeping and gnashing of teeth is what they will do as they see what they will miss out on.
    This verse is the response after the judgment of nations -[sheep and goats] to the sheep who are invited into the kingdom for protecting and helping Israel, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom, which has been prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
    the goats who ignored the Jewish people in the tribulation and rejected the gospel will hear ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels
    They assumed they were saved because they attended a mosque, synagogue or church but But there’s no second chances, the host of heaven cried; no second chances, you listened to lies!”
    Verse 30
    Luke 13:30 LSB
    30 “And behold, some are last who will be first and some are first who will be last.”
    The Gentiles were last - Paul said “to the Jew first and also to the Greek” but Israel rejected their Messiah and the Gentile grafted in - they will be first - and when the church began, it was mainly the Gentiles who accepted the gospel right in Jerusalem! Even the saved Jews struggled to accept them as saved!
    True, Jews who were meant to be first, salvation was of the Jews, but they were supposed to reach out to the Gentiles yet over the centuries traditions superceded God’s word and they will end up last for salvation. But it wasn’t what God wanted!
    This is why the tribulation period is Jacob’s trouble not the churches' -144,000 virgin males are sealed to tell Israel to repent.
    The prophet Zechariah foretells that 2/3 will die but perhaps they will repent and only 1/3 will make it into the Millennial kingdom because they survived and accepted Yeshua as their Messiah.
    Now here comes the Pharisees who are fed up with Yeshua.
    Luke 13:31–32 LSB
    Just at that time some Pharisees approached, saying to Him, “Leave and go from here, for Herod wants to kill You.” And He said to them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish.’
    This wasn’t an insult but in Jewish culture a fox was an insignificant pretender who was cunning but powerless. Verse 33
    Luke 13:33 LSB
    “Nevertheless I must journey on today and tomorrow and the next day, for it is not possible that a prophet would perish outside of Jerusalem.
    Yeshua knowing what He must do - perhaps the city is in view and He weeps!
    Luke 13:34–35 LSB
    “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you did not want it! “Behold, your house is left to you desolate, and I say to you, you will not see Me until the time comes when you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
    Jesus knew what He had to do. He was also sensitive to coming judgment, not excited!
    But notice He repeats Jerusalem twice!
    Did you know this double repetitive happens eight other times in scripture? And anytime a name or place is repeated TWICE it signals urgency, a turning point or intimacy
    Jot these down
    Babylon - when her judgment is coming. [Rev 17-18]
    Abraham - when God stopped Him from sacrificing Isaac [Gen 22]
    Jacob - when God reassured him that Joseph was alive in Egypt [Gen 46]
    Moses - when God commands him to go to Pharoah [Ex 3]
    Samuel - when God speaks to him as a boy for the first time [1 Sam 2]
    Martha - when Jesus calms her worry [Luke 10]
    Simon - when Jesus warns him that Satan wants to sift him as wheat [Luke 22]
    Saul - when Jesus confronts Saul for heading in the wrong direction [Acts 9]
    Just like us - perhaps your spouse, your kids, co-workers have been listening to the wrong voices and see no reason to accept Christ. We feel that same compassion and urgency.
    But God knows how we feel for our family or friends. While there are no guarantees, all we can do is warn them they are on borrowed time and pray for them.
    WORSHIP TEAM
    I mean if Jesus Himself struggled with His own people to repent, it doesn’t mean we failed to tell them enough. They must choose - And all we can tell them is “Just one last chance to do things right, just one last chance to follow the light, cause there’s no second chances, the bible describes, no second chances, you listened to lies!
    Sadly, it’s not Jesus but the church overall that they resist - so folks the point of salvation starts with repentance!!
