SERMON DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 01/25/2026 JOHN 20:19–22, PHILIPPIANS 2:6–8

          1. In Week 1, we heard that Jesus calls ordinary people and gives them a purpose bigger than themselves. Where do you most often feel unqualified to follow Jesus faithfully?

Follow-up: How does knowing that Jesus calls people before they feel ready challenge the way you view your limitations?

Action Step: This week, write down one area where you feel inadequate and intentionally pray, “Jesus, I trust You to work through this.” Take one small step of obedience anyway.

          2. Jesus’ first word to the disciples after the resurrection was “Peace.” What fears, anxieties, or locked doors do you most relate to right now?

Follow-up: Why do you think Jesus gives peace before He gives a mission?

Action Step: Set aside 5 intentional minutes each day this week to bring your fears to God in prayer and receive His peace before responding to your responsibilities.

          3. Jesus sends us the same way He was sent: with humility, love, and service. Which of those three do you find hardest to live out consistently?

Follow-up: How might following Jesus’ pattern change the way you approach everyday interactions at work, home, or school?

Action Step: Identify one ordinary setting this week where you can consciously choose humility, love, or service, without seeking recognition.

          4. The sermon emphasized that the Holy Spirit’s power is for witness, not performance. How does that distinction reshape your understanding of Christian living?

Follow-up: What pressure do you feel to “get it right” spiritually, and how might the Spirit be inviting you to rely on Him instead?

Action Step: Ask the Holy Spirit daily this week: “Who are You inviting me to love, serve, or speak truth to today?” Be attentive to His promptings.

          5. A “Called and Commissioned” life doesn’t wait for perfect conditions. Where has God already placed you to live on mission right now?

Follow-up: What keeps you from seeing those places as sacred opportunities rather than routines or obligations?

Action Step: Choose one space (home, workplace, neighborhood, school) and intentionally pray for the people there every day this week (by name if possible).

          6. At the end of the series, the question became personal: “Will you go?” What does “going” look like for you in this season of life?

Follow-up: What fears or distractions could keep you from living out that commitment?

Action Step: As a group (or solo if you are alone), recite together: “I am called. I am commissioned. I am empowered. I am sent. And by God’s grace, I will go.” Then share one specific way you plan to live that out this week. Be sure to pray for one another.
