*Psalm 90

Leader:   Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.

All:          Before the mountains were brought forth,

                   or ever you had formed the earth and the world,

                  from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

Leader:   You return man to dust and say, “Return, O children of man!”

All:         For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday

when it is past, or as a watch in the night.

Leader:   You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a

dream,  like grass that is renewed in the morning:

All:           In the morning it flourishes and is renewed;

                  in the evening it fades and withers.

Leader:   For we are brought to an end by your anger;

                 by your wrath we are dismayed.

All:          You have set our iniquities before you,

                 our secret sins in the light of your presence.

Leader:   For all our days pass away under your wrath;

                 we bring our years to an end like a sigh.

All:          The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble;

                 they are soon gone, and we fly away.

Leader:   Who considers the power of your anger,

                  and your wrath according to the fear of you?

All:          So teach us to number our days that we may

                  get a heart of wisdom.

Leader:   Return, O Lord! How long? Have pity on your servants!

All:          Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,

                 that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Leader:   Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,

                 and for as many years as we have seen evil.

All:          Let your work be shown to your servants,

                 and your glorious power to their children.

Leader:   Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,

                 and establish the work of our hands upon us;

                 yes, establish the work of our hands!

*Hymn of Preparation – # 30

“Our God, Our Help in Ages Past”

Our God, our help in ages past,

our hope for years to come,

our shelter from the stormy blast,

and our eternal home:

Under the shadow of your throne

your saints have dwelt secure;

sufficient is your arm alone,

and our defense is sure.

Before the hills in order stood,

or earth received her frame,

from everlasting you are God,

to endless years the same.

A thousand ages in your sight

are like an evening gone;

short as the watch that ends the night

before the rising sun.

The busy tribes of flesh and blood,

with all their lives and cares,

are carried downward by your flood,

and lost in foll'wing years.

Time, like an ever-rolling stream,

bears all its sons away;

they fly forgotten, as a dream

dies at the op'ning day.

Our God, our help in ages past,

our hope for years to come:

O be our guard while troubles last,

and our eternal home.

Invocation

Congregational Confession of Sin

Leader: O Lord God, eternal and almighty Father, we confess and acknowledge unfeignedly before your holy majesty that we are poor sinners, conceived and born in iniquity and corruption, prone to do evil, incapable of any good, and that in our depravity we transgress your holy commandments without end or ceasing.

All:   We are grieved that we have offended you; and we condemn ourselves and our sins with true repentance, beseeching your grace to relieve our distress.

Leader: O God and Father, most gracious and full of compassion, have mercy upon us in the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we pray, Amen.

Private Confession of Sin

Assurance of Forgiveness

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”            Romans 8:38-39

*First Reading – Joshua 1:1-9

Adoration and Praise

*Congregational Response – Hymn # 608

“To God My Earnest Voice I Raise”

To God my earnest voice I raise,

to God my voice imploring prays;

before his face my grief I show

and tell my trouble and my woe.

When gloom and sorrow compass me,

the path I take is known to thee,

and all the toils that foes do lay

to snare thy servant in his way.

O Lord, my Savior, now to thee,

without a hope besides, I flee,

to thee, my shelter from the strife,

my portion in the land of life.

Be thou my help when troubles throng,

for I am weak and foes are strong;

my captive soul from prison bring,

and thankful praises I will sing.

*Confession of Faith                                                          The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty,

        Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

 And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God,

       begotten of his Father before all worlds,

       God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God,

       begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father;

       by whom all things were made;

       who for us and for our salvation

       came down from heaven,

       and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary,

       and was made man;

       and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate;

      he suffered and was buried;

      and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures,

      and ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father;

       and he shall come again, with glory,

       to judge both the living and the dead;

       whose kingdom shall have no end.

 And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life,

      who proceeds from the Father and the Son;

      who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified;

      who spoke by the prophets;

      and we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church,

      we acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins,

      and we look for the resurrection of the dead,

      and the life of the world to come. Amen

*The Gloria Patri

Glory be to the Father,

and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

as it was in the beginning,

is now, and ever shall be.

world without end. Amen, amen.

Offering        “I Am His and He is Mine”

*Doxology

Praise God from whom all blessings flow;

praise him, all creatures here below;

praise him above, ye heavn'ly host;

praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Communion Hymn – # 261

“What Wondrous Love Is This”

What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul,

what wondrous love is this, O my soul!

What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss

to bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,

to bear the dreadful curse for my soul!

To God and to the Lamb, I will sing, I will sing,

to God and to the Lamb, I will sing;

to God and to the Lamb, who is the great I AM,

while millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing,

while millions join the theme, I will sing!

And when from death I'm free, I'll sing on, I'll sing on,

and when from death I'm free, I'll sing on;

and when from death I'm free, I'll sing and joyful be,

and through eternity I'll sing on, I'll sing on,

and through eternity I'll sing on!

God’s Blessing on His People

 *Congregational Response – Hymn # 642

“Be Thou My Vision”

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;

naught be all else to me, save that thou art -

thou my best thought, by day or by night,

waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true word;

I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;

thou my great Father, I thy true son;

thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one.

Be thou my battle shield, sword for my fight;

be thou my dignity, thou my delight,

thou my soul's shelter, thou my high tow'r;

raise thou me heav'n-ward, O Pow'r of my pow'r.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,

thou mine inheritance, now and always:

thou and thou only, first in my heart,

High King of Heaven, my treasure thou art.

High King of heaven, my victory won,

may I reach heaven's joys, O bright heav'n's Sun!

Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,

still be my vision, O Ruler of all.
