4 always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy,
Joyful memories of their fellowship in the work of gospel 1:5
    Philippians 1:5 NKJV
5 for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now,
Joyful memories that gave him confidence they would continue to grow 1:6
    Philippians 1:6 NKJV
    6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
When is it finished? at the day of Jesus Christ
Joyful memories that were right to have 1:7
    Philippians 1:7 NKJV
7 just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace.
All of you because your in my heart
All of you because whether in prison or in defense of the gospel we are all partakers of grace of God
Joyful memories that fill my heart with love 1:8
    Philippians 1:8 NKJV
8 For God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ.
God can testify my love is genuine
I greatly long for companionship with you
My love for you stems from my relationship with Jesus Christ

    Prayers for you Phil. 1:9-11

I pray your love keeps on growing 1:9
    Philippians 1:9 NKJV
9 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment,
”a love that is full of knowledge and wise insight.” (JB Phillips)
    I pray you recognize what’s best 1:10a
    Philippians 1:10 NKJV
10 that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ,
I pray you live sincere and blameless lives until Jesus comes 1:10b
    I pray you’re filled with righteousness 1:11
    Philippians 1:11 NKJV
11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
A righteousness that comes from Jesus Christ
A righteousness that brings glory and praise to God

    Preaching the gospel Phil. 1:12-18

    Pauls’ predicament 1:12-14
    Philippians 1:12–14 NKJV
12 But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel, 13 so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ; 14 and most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.
God turned my predicament into an opportunity to spread the gospel 1:12-13
    Paul wanted them to know
Paul wanted them to be encouraged that gospel was being heard by him personally
God used my predicament to encourage others to share the gospel with boldness 1:14
Paul rejoiced the gospel was being preached 1:15-18
    Philippians 1:15–18 NKJV
15 Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill: 16 The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains; 17 but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel. 18 What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.
The two groups preaching Christ 1:15
The jealous and rivalry to Paul
The loyal and with good will
The envious desired to add pain to Paul’s life 1:16
    They preached the true gospel
They were partially motivated by hoping to add affliction to Paul and promote themselves
Those who loved Paul understood he was imprisoned for defending the gospel 1:17
Paul didn’t seek revenge but rejoiced the gospel was being preached 1:18

    Live for Christ Phil. 1:19-30

    Paul’s vision 1:19-20
    Philippians 1:19–20 NKJV
19 For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, 20 according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.
Prayer and the Holy Spirit can bring about my deliverance 1:19
My Desire and hope is not to be ashamed in nothing 1:20
A life that will not bring embarrassment to the Lord or me 1:20a
A life that will be faithfully bold in magnifying Christ with my body either by life our death 1:20b
    Paul’s mission statement 1:21
    Philippians 1:21 NKJV
21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Verse 21 JB Philipps “For living to me means simply “Christ”, and if I die I should merely gain more of him.”
    Paul’s envision 1:22
    Philippians 1:22 NKJV
22 But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell.
Living means bearing fruit in his labor
To continue on earth and live for Christ or to die for Christ and go to heaven is difficult decision
    Paul’s division and decision 1:23-24
    Philippians 1:23–24 NKJV
23 For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. 24 Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you.
    The honest struggle 1:23
    The greater need 1:24
    Paul’s conviction 1:25-26
    Philippians 1:25–26 NKJV
25 And being confident of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith, 26 that your rejoicing for me may be more abundant in Jesus Christ by my coming to you again.
Confidence in his ministry that is not finished 1:25
He will remain and continue to minister
He will see progress in their growth and joy of faith
Desire to see them rejoice when he comes to see them 1:26
    Paul’s instructions 1:27-30
    Philippians 1:27–30 NKJV
27 Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel, 28 and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God. 29 For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake, 30 having the same conflict which you saw in me and now hear is in me.
    Behave like a Christian faithfully
    Ephesians 4:1 NKJV
1 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,
    Colossians 1:10 NKJV
    10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
    1 Thessalonians 2:12 NKJV
12 that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.
Behave in way that is worthy of what you have in the gospel
Behave in a manner you wouldn’t be ashamed to let someone know
    Battle together as one
    Standing fast in one spirit
Striving together for the faith of the gospel
    Showing fearlessness against the enemy
Suffer for your faith in Christ
