THE KEYS TO THE KINGDOM: HOW THIS WHOLE THING WORKS

  • “The Keys to the Kingdom”

    Mark 4:1–9 ESV
    Again he began to teach beside the sea. And a very large crowd gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat in it on the sea, and the whole crowd was beside the sea on the land. And he was teaching them many things in parables, and in his teaching he said to them: “Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth of soil. And when the sun rose, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away. Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain. And other seeds fell into good soil and produced grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.” And he said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
    I. THERE ARE TWO REALMS
    A. Natural - Earthly Realm
    Everything we can see, taste, touch & feel
    B. SuperNatural - Heavenly Realm
    Everything that we cannot see
    2 Corinthians 4:18 ESV
    as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
    C. Jesus came to bring A SUPERNATURAL KINGDOM
    KINGDOM = A King’s Domain - Wherever the King rules
    Matthew 28:18 ESV
    And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
    Mark 16:15–18 ESV
    And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
    II. WHAT IS GOING ON IS NEVER REALLY WHAT IS GOING ON

    Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,
    A. You ALREADY HAVE all that you need
    B. John 20:30
    John 19:30 ESV
    When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
    C. Heaven is NOT a TIME - Heaven is a REALM
    III. GOD’S COMMANDMENTS & PROMISES ARE THE KEYS TO ACCESS THE KINGDOM
    A. MATTHEW 16:19
    Matthew 16:19 ESV
    I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
    B. KEYS OPEN DOORS
    Malachi 3:10 ESV
    Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.
    IV. KEYS ARE ACCESS POINTS
    A. Keys UNLOCK things
    “PARABLE” = A CURTAIN / HIDDEN
    Mark 4:10–20 ESV
    And when he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables. And he said to them, “To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables, so that “ ‘they may indeed see but not perceive, and may indeed hear but not understand, lest they should turn and be forgiven.’ ” And he said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? The sower sows the word. And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in them. And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away. And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.”
    B. THE SEED IS THE WORD
    Mark 4:14 ESV
    The sower sows the word.
    Matthew 6:33 ESV
    But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
    C. JESUS IS LOOKING FOR SEEKERS OF THE KINGDOM
    Matthew 4:17 ESV
    From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
