    26 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
    What is the point of singing?
    That stubborn song stuck in your head. Songs can be light-hearted or carry deep meaning.
    It is to bring into remembrance something important.
    Psalm 113:1–9 LSB
    1 Praise Yah! Praise, O slaves of Yahweh, Praise the name of Yahweh. 2 May the name of Yahweh be blessed From now until forever. 3 From the rising of the sun to its setting The name of Yahweh is to be praised. 4 Yahweh is high above all nations; His glory is above the heavens. 5 Who is like Yahweh our God, The One who sits on high, 6 The One who brings Himself low to see The things in heaven and on the earth? 7 Who raises the poor from the dust And lifts high the needy from the ash heap, 8 To make them sit with nobles, With the nobles of His people. 9 He makes the barren woman of the house sit As a glad mother of children. Praise Yah!

    We are a people for His praise!

    1 Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord!

    We bless His name

    Psalm 113:2 ESV
    2 Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and forevermore!

    His praise should always be on our tongues

    Psalm 113:3 ESV
    3 From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!

    No one else deserves such praise

    Psalm 113:4 ESV
    4 The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens!

    No one is like Yahweh

    5 Who is like the Lord our God, who is seated on high,

    God comes to our level

    Psalm 113:6 ESV
    6 who looks far down on the heavens and the earth?

    God cares about and raises up the downcast

    Psalm 113:7–8 ESV
    7 He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap, 8 to make them sit with princes, with the princes of his people.

    He gives value to those who feel worthless

    Psalm 113:9 ESV
    9 He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children.

    We are to praise God

    Psalm 113:9 ESV
    Praise the Lord!
    So when you say, “Hallelujah!”
    When you say, “Praise the Lord!”
    Know you are saying, “Praise Yahweh!”

    Why do we sing praises to the Lord?

    Because we are glad

    Psalm 100:1–2 ESV
    1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! 2 Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!

    Because we are united in the Spirit

    Ephesians 5:18–20 ESV
    18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

    Because we want to learn

    Colossians 3:16 ESV
    16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

    Because we get to offer this sacrifice to God

    Hebrews 13:15 ESV
    15 Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.
