  • We long for love and acceptance. We fear abandonment.
Think for a moment about how many things we do just for approval or acceptance.
    Clothes we wear
    Things we say
    Decisions we make
There is even a condition called social anxiety where people experience great fear around interacting with other people. Fear of saying something embarrassing. Not knowing what to say. Fear of rejection.
People can even feel alone in a crowded room.
Jesus was forsaken by everyone so that we might be accepted by His Father
    Who forsook Jesus?
    The leaders
    Mark 15:1 ESV
And as soon as it was morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council. And they bound Jesus and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate.
    Who forsook Jesus?
    The leaders
    The crowd
    Mark 15:8 ESV
And the crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do as he usually did for them.
    Mark 15:11 ESV
But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release for them Barabbas instead.
    Mark 15:13–14 ESV
And they cried out again, “Crucify him.” And Pilate said to them, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him.”
    Who forsook Jesus?
    The leaders
    The crowd
    Pontius Pilate
    Mark 15:15 ESV
So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
    Who forsook Jesus?
    The leaders
    The crowd
    Pontius Pilate
    The soldiers
    Mark 15:16 ESV
And the soldiers led him away inside the palace (that is, the governor’s headquarters), and they called together the whole battalion.
    Who forsook Jesus?
    The leaders
    The crowd
    Pontius Pilate
    The soldiers
    Those who passed by
    Mark 15:29 ESV
And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,

    Pontius Pilate
    The soldiers
    Those who passed by
    God The Father
    Mark 15:34 ESV
34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
When all is said and done…
    Mark 15:37–38 ESV
37 And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last. 38 And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.
Jesus was forsaken by everyone so that we might be accepted by His Father
    Romans 8:15–16 ESV
15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
