    Kids Time: give the kids a fake $10 bill and show them that it is not the real thing. false teachers are like fake money. Give them each a real dollar bill.
    Proposition: Peter Introduces his subject of false teachers
    Transitional Statement: 2 Aspects of False Teachers that should cause us be spiritually alert.

    I. Identity of a False Teacher

    A. Insidious (1)

    2 Peter 2:1 LSB
    1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.
    The people — the Israelites

    B. Secretive (1)

    heresies — sect or party. A false teacher forces you to make a choice and choose a party. “Are you on Dave or Marcy’s side?” Usually this is done secretly not out in the open where people will telly you what they believe.
    destructive in that they ruin the unity in the church and the faith of individuals.

    C. Denial of Jesus (1)

    deny — repudiate, disown. Not just doubt or have a week moment, but disown Jesus in a habitual, settled state of denial.
    Who bought them. difficult passage. Did Jesus buy them in a salvation sense? If they were redeemed by the blood of Christ, then they must have lost their salvation. That is not consistent with the rest of the Bible. Clearer passages must interpret the less clearer passages.

    D. Self Destructive (1)

    swift — quick or imminent (could happen at any moment.) They are on the razor’s edge of judgment. Their ultimate fate is desctruction in the Lake of Fire.

    E. Licensed to Sin (2)

    2 Peter 2:2 LSB
    2 And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned.
    Some pastors are saying that their is nothing wrong with homosexuality or sex before marriage. They try to use the Bible to justify their own sin. Others teach that abortion is perfectly ok. I heard one “pastor” say that she thought Jesus would escort women to their abortions if He were here today.

    F. Cheaters (3)

    2 Peter 2:3 LSB
    3 And in their greed they will exploit you with false words, their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
    false — πλαστός, ή, όν: ‘false, made-up, invented.’ we get out wore plastic from this Greek word. they peddle plastic words. They use the same terminology that we do in talking about salvation, faith, grace, inspiration, and love but they stretch the meaning and mold it into their own design. What is a woman? What is a man? They use those words, but they can mean anything they want it to.

    II The Examples of a False Teacher

    A. Fallen Angels (4)

    2 Peter 2:4 LSB
    4 For if God did not spare angels who sinned, but cast them into the pit and delivered them to chains of darkness, being kept for judgment;

    B. The Flood (5)

    2 Peter 2:5 LSB
    5 and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;

    C. Sodom (6-8)

    2 Peter 2:6 LSB
    6 and if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by reducing them to ashes, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly lives thereafter;
    Romans 1:24–27 LSB
    24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. 26 For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable passions; for their females exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the males abandoned the natural function of the female and burned in their desire toward one another, males with males committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

    7 and if He rescued righteous Lot, oppressed by the sensual conduct of unprincipled men

    Conclusion
    2 Peter 2:9 LSB
    9 then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trial, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment,
    Rescue For Us — With such deception in the world and in the church how can we survive? Good news! God knows how to rescue us. Acts 12 — Peter released from prison by the angel.
    Destruction For Them. There is a judgement coming. Acts 12:22 — Herod received worship when they said that his words were the words of a god and not that of a man. An angel struck him. There is only one way to avoid it. [Gospel presentation]
