  • How does a nation get to the point where
Decades of ongoing injustice creates an ever-growing divide amongst people of different skin colors, economic profiles and religious backgrounds
Its education system becomes a means of funneling its citizens through idealogical indoctrination instead of the exploration of all that is noble and beneficial and beautiful
Generations of Americans look first to chemical interventions instead of proper diet, hydration, spiritual sustenance and rest to resolve their physical, emotional and psychological concerns
School shootings become so commonplace that we don’t ask “if” but rather “when and where” they will happen
The killing of innocent babies in the womb is justified by the law
Mobs of Antifa thugs exert their so-called “anti-fascist” rhetoric by employing violence and terror tactics….just like the brown shirts of the Nazi regime and their fascist allies under Mussolini
The foundations of a Biblical worldview have been slowly eroded in the collective mind of the American public until they are almost gone! But by God’s grace, a remnant of people who honor the Lord and heed His Word still exists. Our text today speaks to our situation to give us clear instruction.

    Concerning our Origin…

2 Peter 3:1–13 “1 This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, 2 that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, 3 knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires.
2 Timothy 3:1–7 “But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.”
    Godless Worldview (foundational framework)
4 They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5 For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, 6 and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. 7 But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.
people will forget their Biblical foundation
    scoffers will arise (always)
    uniformitarian framework
    ascribing creation to chaos
Romans 1:18–23 “18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.”
    they deliberately overlook (willingly ignorant)
    Creation
    Flood
    Judgement to come

    Concerning our Destiny…

8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.
Judgement day is coming- God will be thorough
    God’s desire is for repentance.
11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13 But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”

    How Then Shall We Live?

    4 Therefore’s
2 Peter 3:14–18 “14 Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. 15 And count the patience of our Lord as salvation,…
17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.”

    sanctified
