  • What is codependency and why I am so concerned?

    What is codependency?

Codependency is a mental health designation for relationships in which people use one another to get their own emotional needs met, but in a selfish and destructive manner. https://www.gotquestions.org/codependency.html
Modern understandings of codependency now refer to “a specific relationship addiction characterized by preoccupation and extreme dependence—emotional, social and sometimes physical—on another person” (Lampis et al., 2017).
    https://positivepsychology.com/codependency-definition-signs-worksheets/#what-codependency.

    1. Codependency, puts a person in the place of God, further, codependency stops the work of God in the life of the person they are fixated on.

    a. What does the bible say about putting anything in the place of God.

    Exodus 20:3 NKJV
3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.
    Deuteronomy 6:14 NKJV
14 You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are all around you
    2 Kings 17:35 NKJV
    35 with whom the Lord had made a covenant and charged them, saying: “You shall not fear other gods, nor bow down to them nor serve them nor sacrifice to them;
    Jeremiah 25:6 NKJV
6 Do not go after other gods to serve them and worship them, and do not provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands; and I will not harm you.’
    Jeremiah 35:15 NKJV
15 I have also sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, ‘Turn now everyone from his evil way, amend your doings, and do not go after other gods to serve them; then you will dwell in the land which I have given you and your fathers.’ But you have not inclined your ear, nor obeyed Me.

When I make myself responsible for someone else’s feeling or behavior. Often, in a practical way, we are worshiping the results. In that way, the person and their behavior becomes our God.

    2. When we are codependent we don’t allow God to be God in a persons life.

The Holy Spirit convicts, not people.
    2 Timothy 3:16–17 NKJV
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
    John 16:8 NKJV
8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
The Holy Spirit convicts of sin and brings change.

    3. When I am codependent, I have a false identity.

    Proverbs 22:6 NKJV
6 Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.
    Ephesians 2:10 NKJV
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
the Lord has a plan for you and he has a ministry for you. he has things that you are able to do.
when you are codependent, then you dont have tome to do what God had called us too.
