  • John 20:26–29 NKJV
26 And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!” 27 Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.” 28 And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

    1. The reaction of Thomas proves the reality of the crucifixion.

To fully understand this we need to go to another verse.
    John 20:25 NKJV
25 The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”

I grew up hearing Thomas refereed as “Doubting Thomas,”

Instead, I think we should refer to him as “Truthful Thomas.”

Thomas is still traumatized by the reality of the punishment that Jesus took at the hands of the Romans-
    Isaiah 53:3 NKJV
3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
    Isaiah 53:4 NKJV
4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.
    Romans 8:32 NKJV
32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
    Ephesians 5:2 NKJV
2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
    Isaiah 53:8 NKJV
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.
    2 Corinthians 5:14 NKJV
    14 For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died;
For Thomas, you don’t go through what Jesus the Christ went through and come out alive.
When people present you with these theories that have christ not dying but swooning, as in fainting they are not moving according to science and experience.
Rather, they are looking to gently deny the beatings and the punishment of the cross.

Why would they deny the cross?

To discount the divinity of Jesus!

We have to look no further than Thomas.
    John 20:25 NKJV
25 The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”

    2. Thomas illustrates to us the power of being present.

often times we (Men) think its what we provide for our families that makes a difference, to be sure providing for their needs is important.
at least of equal importance is not just the what of you it is the who.
many of us get lost in the what and forget about the who. your family needs the who of you as much as they need the what that you provide.
the same thing holds true in your spiritual family.
you don’t need just the what of the sermon. ‘
you need the who of the Holy Spirit.
some of the who of the Holy Spirit is only present in the spiritual gifts of the People as in-powered by the Holy Spirit.
    Proverbs 27:17 NKJV
17 As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
    Ecclesiastes 4:10 NKJV
10 For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up.
    Isaiah 35:3 NKJV
3 Strengthen the weak hands, And make firm the feeble knees.
    Isaiah 41:6 NKJV
6 Everyone helped his neighbor, And said to his brother, “Be of good courage!”
    Hebrews 10:24–25 NKJV
24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
Thomas was not there because for whatever reason, He was not gathered with the rest.
there are times when we all miss things, Pastor and I where married on a Saturday, we did not come to church the next day (we did drive by the parking lot) and we did listen to the live stream on the way to our honeymoon not that you have to do that, but this is our church, we get at least as much from you as you get from us!
we need to stay encouraged and we need to be together to encourage one another.
There is power in the worship that we sing together!
    fellowship is like saving money.
if you wait until you need it, its to late.
we make a habit of being here like we make a habit out of savings or exercise or the other things we do because they are right. not because we feel like it or we don't.

    3. The Lord comes after Thomas to restore Him. The Lord wants to restore you as well.

    John 20:27–29 NKJV
27 Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.” 28 And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Jesus came for Thomas to bring reconciliation.
The same Jesus that came for Thomas longs to fellowship with you!
If you have never excepted Jesus as your Savior let me invite you now!
    Romans 3:23 NKJV
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
    We say it here often,

    all means… all!

    Romans 6:23 NKJV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The wages of sin is… Death.

BUT, the gift of God is eternal life

    Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

    Romans 5:8 NKJV
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

While I was still dead in my sins Christ died for me!

    Ephesians 2:8–9 NKJV
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Christ did it all! all that’s left for us to do is receive it.

    Romans 10:9–10 NKJV
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
    Romans 10:13 NKJV
13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If your saved, but soured, all you need to do is repent.

    James 4:7–8 NKJV
7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
    1 John 1:9 NKJV
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
    Jude 24 NKJV
