Psalm 100 NKJV A Psalm of Thanksgiving. 1 Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! 2 Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. 3 Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. 4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. 5 For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.Introduction:The thanksgiving season is upon us. it will be filled with turkey and feasting and football. Next Friday will mark the season of giving and before you know it Christmas will be upon us then the new year. Now is the time we reflect— we take this time to love each other, however we cant love each other properly without loving on the Lord.True joy comes from the Lord. It is seen as it is expressed through us.1. Be joyful— the whole world.Psalm 100:1 NKJV 1 Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands!God is God for everyone. We believe the Lord is the Lord of the whole world. That is why we do evangelism. For us, it is not enough to know Him ourselves; we want the world to know the same grace that we know.2. Believers have the privilege of serving the Rescuer. We are not forced to worship Him.Rather, we worship Him out of gratitude — gratitude that flows from the grace in which we live.Psalm 100:2 NKJV 2 Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.Serve the Lord—Enhanced Strong’s Lexicon 5647 עָבַד1B2 to make oneself a servant.
Many, if not all of us, have felt the struggle of discipleship. If we are not careful, we can work ourselves into self-righteousness.How, you may ask? By acting as if we are perfect — as if our efforts are as spotless as our intentions. However, that’s not true. Our actions rarely add up to our intentions — at least mine do not.The grace of God is very simple: He is the only Being in all the universe who truly loves us beyond our ability to comprehend Him — not only His love, but His power, His holiness, His eternity — all beyond human understanding.Yet that same God loves us so perfectly that He is not only long-suffering, but He invites us into relationship with Him.He wants us to feel free to tell Him everything — even how unfair our discipleship process feels at times. And when He could call us to account, He instead, through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, encourages us. (At least, that’s how He has treated me.)That’s why I serve Him — and sometimes, I even serve Him with gladness. We sing to the LordWe get to enter His presence with singing. This is why the praise team works so hard to make sure we can “enter His presence with singing.Every time we gather the Lord is present— not only when we are able to perceive His presence.Matthew 18:20 NKJV 20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”Every time we gather, the Lord is present. We worship Him and while we do we transcend where we are, when we sing to the Lord we join the church that has gone on before. As I wrote that line i thought of the rockers who have gone before. We join them when we worship. Our heart and minds are adjusted when we allow ourselves to enter into worship. He is our maker.3. We are the Lord’s and not our own.Psalm 100:3 NKJV 3 Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. He maid you. He knows you. He chose you.We are the sheep of His pasture. We praise Him and tell of his wonderful work in our life.4. Enter His courts with Praise!Psalm 100:4 NKJV 4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. And Here we are, thanksgiving— we are to enter his courts with thanksgiving. We thank Him for all He has done for us and what we have.We may not be where we want to be— But look how far you have come. He did His part— And you did yours. He waited for years for you— and hear you are doing all that you are doing. Take a moment and think about all He has done. Now let me ask you, do you have some thing to be thankful for?We know good is who He is not Just what He does!5. The Lord is good.Psalm 100:5 NKJV 5 For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations. His mercy is everlasting. As we stated earlier— He is merciful. Can you think of times in your life wen He has been full of mercy. He will continue to be merciful. His truth endures.Matthew 24:35 NKJV 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.Isaiah 40:8 NKJV 8 The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.”There are many people who are afraid that His truth will not prevail. It is His truth and He will make sure that it will endure. For me this was another tough spot in the writing of this sermon. He will make sure His truth endures— that is not the tough part— the tough part is, it is up to us to model it. It is much harder for us to model His word then it is too live however you want and say it is discipline by building a logic around it— He knew that and so His mercy is everlasting .Conclusion:We are His people, we are the sheep of His pasture. He chose us, to show forth His glory in the world. The best way we can do that is to start by thanking Him.
