Hebrews 11:6 NKJV 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.PrayerLord, we thank You for Your Word, which is truth. We have gathered here today to be encouraged, to come out of ourselves in worship, to turn aside from our many cares, and to focus on You.As we have gathered, help us to lay aside the distractions of the week and turn our hearts and minds toward You. We live in a world where so many voices are competing for our loyalty. But Lord, as we sit in this room this morning, gathered with others who love You, help us to open our minds and hearts to Your Holy Spirit.Sweet Holy Spirit, we invite You here. Have Your way in us. Help us to turn away from the world and its systems, and toward Your Word, listening for Your voice.Lord, use me as a preacher this morning. Use this church in the way that You have designed us to be used. Help us to truly hear Your Word. And as Your Word confronts our will, we ask that You would help us to surrender. We stand amazed at Your grace and Your love toward us.In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.Introduction:Good morning,As we come out of our last series, “On the Road to Redemption,” we step into a new series: “Walking Out Our Journey of Faith.”I call faith a journey because we grow in it. As Christians, it is very easy to fall into the rhythm of everyday life and simply react to whatever comes our way. When we think about the Church, we often think of it as an institution. To a degree, that is true—there are parts of it that function that way. But more than an institution, the Church is meant to be a family, because the Church is made up of people. And people are flawed. All people are flawed. This church—and every church—is made up of flawed people. Yet Jesus knew that His Church would be made up of imperfect people, and those same people would be the ones to carry on His work. The thought that He would use me—knowing my flaws—is amazing to me.The truth is, His glory is revealed even more because of our flaws. So how are we going to do the work He has called us to do?Faith is the only way.And yet, many Christians talk as though they have faith, but cannot tell you the last time they truly struggled with what God was calling them to do. I suspect that’s not entirely honest. Why do I say that?Because the fruit of where we are tells me we are talking more than we are walking. So what do we do about it?We stop talking—and start walking. We will never soar like eagles until we first learn to walk in faith. That is what this series is about: laying aside our masks, moving beyond playing church, and learning to walk in purpose.Every one of us came to Christ the same way—by faith.Ephesians 2:8–9 NKJV 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.Romans 10:10 NKJV 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. If you’re saved, then you already have all the faith you need.Let me take a moment—just a brief pause. If you are sitting in this room and you are not saved… maybe no one has ever clearly invited you to trust in Jesus as your Lord…Let me give you that opportunity—right now.All of us are sinners.Romans 3:23 NKJV 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,The result of our sin is death.Romans 6:23 NKJV 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. But while we where dead in our sin, Christ died for us.Romans 5:8 NKJV 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.So, what do we do?Surrender to Christ!Romans 10:9–10 NKJV 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. And that’s how every one of us came— not by works… not by effort… but by faith.Prayer team, would you come at this time? Praise team, would you come as well?If you are here this morning, and you are used to long invitations—that’s not how we do it here. We’re going to pause for just a moment. And in this moment—if the Holy Spirit is tugging on your heart, we are inviting you to come now.The praise team is here to support this moment. The prayer team is here to serve you. And believers all over this room are praying for you.You don’t have to wait. You don’t have to figure everything out.If God is dealing with your heart—we invite you to come now. Each of us has been given a measure of faith.“Faith is not something we say—we walk it out.”Romans 12:3 NKJV 3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. Most of us have not learned to exercise our faith beyond our salvation. The Bible is full of testimonies of imperfect people following a perfect God.As I survey the Bible, I see struggle. But when I listen to Christians, I don’t hear that same struggle—at least not when it comes to trusting God.Jacob wrestled with the angel until he was blessed. Peter was rebuked right after he declared that Jesus is the Christ. Moses broke the commandments. Samson listened to Delilah. King David had a host of failures. Thomas refused to believe until he saw Jesus. And yet, we often act like we are living in an episode of Highway to Heaven or Touched by an Angel.“Faith is not something we say—we walk it out.”But we’re not.We are real people, with real problems, and real struggles. We need to get honest. If we look at our lives, we will see there is a gap between the high ideals of our biblical faith and the reality of how we are actually living. The Lord has far too much for us to do to keep playing church.“Faith is not something we say—we walk it out.”The world needs a Church filled with power now more than ever. This country needs revival like a man needs air.And if we are going to see revival, we must stop playing church and start being the Church. And if we are going to be the Church, we must lay aside our platitudes and clichés, and come before the Lord— allowing Him to lead us and guide us.We cannot please God without trusting Him.We are not going to talk our way out of this. We are going to walk our way out of this. And we walk our way out by confronting our flesh and bringing our sin and our shortcomings before God.And when we do, we will find:Grace. Strength. Forgiveness. Healing. Purpose. And finally—peace.“Faith is not something we say—we walk it out.”Hebrews 11:6NKJV
