    Proverbs 23:7 KJV 1900
    7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; But his heart is not with thee.

    How I think determines how I live.

    שָׁעַר — shāʿar

    Pronounced: sha-AR

    Yes. “Reeking” is stronger than “stinking.”
    Stinking means something smells bad.
    Reeking means the smell is strong, obvious, and overpowering.
    So if you are preaching and want emphasis, “reeking” carries more force.
    Example: “You can be dressed up on the outside and still be reeking with bitterness on the inside.”

    Means to calculate, reckon, or estimate.

    In Proverbs 23:7, “thinks” is not just a passing thought. It is what a person has settled or concluded within himself.
    Preaching Thought: What I repeatedly accept as true in my heart will begin to shape the way I live.
    Another word for reckon might be reason.
    The way we think is often a product of our razing and experiences.
    Often times our feelings about the situation dominate our thinking and not the facts.
    The enemy wants to insert his motives into our pain.
    The way we think about things is often automated, it means it happens automatically.
    We have to renew our minds
    Romans 12:1–2 NKJV
    1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

    Renewing my mind is not automatic. Renewing My mind takes time and multiple applications.

    I can have an intellectual and theological understanding of a verse. For that verse to work its work in my life I am going to need to apply it over and over.
    Heres what I mean:
    I man can have suffered years of disrespect, so, as a result a tone can hit is ear or a phrase can hit his heart and now we are off to the races. He does the work of the enemy. He can try with all his might and the argument Goes down like it always has.
    He is married to a woman who has been abused by husbands over and over. She has a sort fuse of a different kind, what happens— the argument starts and She doesn't care what tone she is using and now we are off. as Emerson Eggriches Book called love and respect calls the crazy cycle. it just keeps going and going and the cant get out— He is a Christian Counselor so, he is going to come at it from the counseling perspective-
    I am asking this very important question: Do you see what is happening?
    the cycle goes automatically and the the couple hurts each other and the enemy wins by doing nothing or next to nothing.
    What do we have— we have a strong hold.

    The enemy uses strong holds to keep us covering the same ground over and over.

    2 Corinthians 10:3–5 NKJV
    3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

    What is a stronghold?

    It is a fortified dwelling that is used for protection from an enemy.
    Fortified means strengthened and defended against attack.
    now strongholds are good or bad depending on who holds them. If the Lord has a stronghold in your life then that's a good thing, if its the enemy than its not so good.
    David used them to hide from Saul.
    1 Samuel 23:14 NKJV
    14 And David stayed in strongholds in the wilderness, and remained in the mountains in the Wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but God did not deliver him into his hand.
    1 Samuel 23:19 NKJV
    19 Then the Ziphites came up to Saul at Gibeah, saying, “Is David not hiding with us in strongholds in the woods, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon?
