What forgiving is: a willingness to move on from an injustice you went through. To cancel the debt owed to you.

Matthew 6:14

For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you,

Forgiveness is freedom with boundaries. 

1. Start by praying for that person. 

2. Ask God to help you. 

3. Try, try, and try again.

The meaning of mercy—compassion, kindness, charity, goodness, devotion, tenderness, and helpfulness

 I. MERCY FOR THE SINNER—Matt. 9:36

A. Saw the multitudes

(Lift up your eyes and look! Many are in need of mercy)

B. Moved with compassion

(His heart was moved as He saw lost humanity)

C. Fainted

(Weak and buffeted, and lead astray by Satan)

D. Scattered

(There are people everywhere who need this mercy shown to them)

E. Sheep with no shepherd

(Compassion of sheep and people—Isa. 53:6)

 II. MERCY FOR THE SORROWFUL

A. Mercy for the unwanted—Mark 1:41

(The leper who was unclean was helped by Jesus)

B. Mercy for the unlovely—John 4:1–24

(The woman taken in adultery—mercy shown to her)

C. The words of David—Ps. 142:4, “No man cared for my soul”

D. God has shown his mercy to you, now He wants us to show mercy toward others

 III. MERCY FOR THE SICK—Matt. 25:34–36

A. Hungry, gave me meat

B. Thirsty, gave me drink

C. Stranger, took me in

D. Naked, ye clothed me

E. Sick, ye visited me

F. Prison, ye came unto me

These six classes are typical of the world today. Each class is included. These people need mercy shown unto them

 IV. MERCY FOR THE SUFFERING

A. Suffering mentally

(These people need special mercy shown unto them)

B. Suffering physically

(A kind word, a visit shows mercy to these)

C. Suffering bereavement

(Show mercy by giving the hope we have in Christ)

D. Suffering loneliness

(Christ will never leave or forsake us)

E. Suffering discouragement

(Show mercy by giving encouragement)

OBSERVATION:

What do you think God is saying to you in this scripture? Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you.
