The Preacher’s Commentary Series, Volume 22: Hosea / Joel / Amos / Obadiah / Jonah To Walk or Not to Walk?

The watchword was, “This is My way, walk in it.”

The Preacher’s Commentary Series, Volume 22: Hosea / Joel / Amos / Obadiah / Jonah To Walk or Not to Walk?

Thus the question, “Can two walk together unless they have met?” stresses the point that Israel’s daily walk with God was not being consistently renewed.

The starting place for a Christian’s walk with God is Calvary. We meet Him at the foot of the cross.

Two people who take a walk must meet together to begin the walk.

The Preacher’s Commentary Series, Volume 22: Hosea / Joel / Amos / Obadiah / Jonah To Walk or Not to Walk?

There must be a starting place, a shared pace, and a shared destination. This is the cause of the effect of the walk.

    I. a starting place
Opening Up Amos God’s Chosen People (3:1–2)

Verse 3 speaks about a person’s ‘walk’. This is a term that is often used in the Bible to describe someone’s whole manner of life—their desires and their actions.

Christians should be people who delight to ‘walk with God.’ They ought to have a close and continuous relationship with their Lord.

5 [But the Lord rebukes Jeremiah’s impatience, saying] If you have raced with men on foot and they have tired you out, then how can you compete with horses? And if [you take to flight] in a land of peace where you feel secure, then what will you do [when you tread the tangled maze of jungle haunted by lions] in the swelling and flooding of the Jordan?
    Jeremiah 12:5 KJV

Share the work, share the wealth. 10 And if one falls down, the other helps, But if there’s no one to help, tough! 11 Two in a bed warm each other. Alone, you shiver all night. 12 By yourself you’re unprotected. With a friend you can face the worst. Can you round up a third? A three-stranded rope isn’t easily snapped.

    Mark 8:36 TPT
36 For what use is it to gain all the wealth and power of this world, with everything it could offer you, at the cost of your own life?
    Ecclesiastes 2:1–17 NLT
1 I said to myself, “Come on, let’s try pleasure. Let’s look for the ‘good things’ in life.” But I found that this, too, was meaningless. 2 So I said, “Laughter is silly. What good does it do to seek pleasure?” 3 After much thought, I decided to cheer myself with wine. And while still seeking wisdom, I clutched at foolishness. In this way, I tried to experience the only happiness most people find during their brief life in this world. 4 I also tried to find meaning by building huge homes for myself and by planting beautiful vineyards. 5 I made gardens and parks, filling them with all kinds of fruit trees. 6 I built reservoirs to collect the water to irrigate my many flourishing groves. 7 I bought slaves, both men and women, and others were born into my household. I also owned large herds and flocks, more than any of the kings who had lived in Jerusalem before me. 8 I collected great sums of silver and gold, the treasure of many kings and provinces. I hired wonderful singers, both men and women, and had many beautiful concubines. I had everything a man could desire! 9 So I became greater than all who had lived in Jerusalem before me, and my wisdom never failed me. 10 Anything I wanted, I would take. I denied myself no pleasure. I even found great pleasure in hard work, a reward for all my labors. 11 But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless—like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere. 12 So I decided to compare wisdom with foolishness and madness (for who can do this better than I, the king?). 13 I thought, “Wisdom is better than foolishness, just as light is better than darkness. 14 For the wise can see where they are going, but fools walk in the dark.” Yet I saw that the wise and the foolish share the same fate. 15 Both will die. So I said to myself, “Since I will end up the same as the fool, what’s the value of all my wisdom? This is all so meaningless!” 16 For the wise and the foolish both die. The wise will not be remembered any longer than the fool. In the days to come, both will be forgotten. 17 So I came to hate life because everything done here under the sun is so troubling. Everything is meaningless—like chasing the wind.
    New Living Translation Chapter 2

18 I came to hate all my hard work here on earth, for I must leave to others everything I have earned. 19 And who can tell whether my successors will be wise or foolish? Yet they will control everything I have gained by my skill and hard work under the sun. How meaningless! 20 So I gave up in despair, questioning the value of all my hard work in this world.

    Proverbs 13:22 AMP
22 A good man leaves an inheritance [of moral stability and goodness] to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner [finds its way eventually] into the hands of the righteous, for whom it was laid up.

There is a Wealthy Man who lost his only Son tragically. He decided he was going to auction off all his wordly possessions because without his son he had no desire for these things. He wrote a book for those interested in his estate.

As people where coming into the auction they all where given his free book. But everyone was so impressed with all the exotic stuff they never bothered to read the book except this little poor lady.
