  • The Test of Faith

The testing of faith has always been apart of the life of the believer.

List biblical characters that had their faith tested. (Hebrews 11)
    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

How did they demonstrate their faith?

Abel- obtained a witness that he was righteous.

Enoch- had a testimony that he pleased God.

Noah- became an heir of righteousness.

Abraham- looked for a city which had foundations whose builder and maker was God

Sarah- judged him that gave her the promise to be faithful.

    Faith exist beyond physical perception

    Read Heb 11:1
    Hebrews 11:1 KJV 1900
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
    Faith is substance is evidence
Faith is not seen not heard, not felt real
Their faith went beyond the temporal or the temporary.
The test of faith is not only a test of our trust in God but a confidence in the process that God has given.

To have faith we must know something about God.

    2 Timothy 2:19 KJV 1900
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

    What makes a foundation strong?

    The material used in it.

Seal-from the Hebrew word chatam means to preserve or to make permanent

The Hebrew verb chatam means “to seal,” “to affix a seal,” or “to preserve,” and was used to indicate the authenticity, ownership, permanence, authority, unchangeableness, or inviolability of something by placing a mark on it.
Eugene E. Carpenter and Philip W. Comfort, Holman Treasury of Key Bible Words: 200 Greek and 200 Hebrew Words Defined and Explained (Nashville, TN: Broadman & Holman Publishers, 2000), 163.

What element makes the foundation of God permanent?

The Lord knows them that are his.

    God knows us
    God Created us
God what is best for us
    Read Acts 17:25-28
    Acts 17:25–28 KJV 1900
Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

God has positioned us for his purpose

    James 1:2–3 KJV 1900
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
    We must count it right-Joy.
We must have the right attitude-Knowing.
It is not you on trial. It is your faith.
    Read Daniel 6:1-4
    Daniel 6:1–4 KJV 1900
It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom; And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage. Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm. Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

    The Lord was with Daniel

How do we know the Lord was with him?

    He had an excellent spirit.

No fault was found in him.

    He was faithful

    Daniel 6:7 KJV 1900
All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellers, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

    The Test

    The order was targeted

    Daniel 6:5 KJV 1900
Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

    The order was temporary

Daniel 6:7 .... whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

Why make a thirty day time frame?

The tactics of the enemy offers a way to appease the situation.
Even the most devote may have justified their compliance saying it's only 30 days.

    DANIEL had a choice.

When laws or ordinances are passed to restrict worship it is not a legislative battle it is a personal battle.
Even at this time the people voted to comply with the judgment of the lawmakers.

    DANIEL stood alone.

He knew of the decree. He did not stand against the decree. It was not a protest. He stood for God as he always did in his public and private life.
He did not undermine his accusers or rise up against the King. He just continued to serve God as he always did.

    DANIEL continued to serve God

    Daniel 6:10 KJV 1900
Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.

What we can learn from DANIEL?

We cannot wait for the challenge to exercise our faith

Human Government will always favor the position of people.

It will be reflection of the human condition.

Gods' people recognizes that the world system as a whole will not favor their worldview. We must just do privately and publicly the will of God.

This too is a test of Faith

    1 Peter 1:7 KJV 1900
That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

For Praise, Honor and Glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ

    Luke 18:8 KJV 1900
I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
