Our Mission: To Know and Share the Joy of the Lord

We are a family of believers united by our passion to know and share the joy of the Lord. We believe that joy is found in the gospel – the good news of Jesus. It is our calling and privilege to share the good news with our families, our city and the world. (Matthew 28:19-20; Matthew 13:44; Romans 10:14-15; Nehemiah 8:10; Psalm 33:1; Romans 15:13)

Committed to Discipleship

Jesus said “A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher“. Ultimately, we want to become like Jesus in every way. God does not intend for that transformation to happen in isolation. His design is for believers to grow and learn and disciple others and be discipled within the church in order to become more like His Son. We strive to be intentional in that discipleship through our teaching, group gatherings, weekly fellowship meals, and common service and outreach. (Matthew 28:19-20; Ephesians 5:1; 1 Thessalonians 1:6)

Committed to Community

We are convinced that life is best when lived in close community with people who love each other and share a common hope. We want South Tapps Church to truly be a family. Our goal is to be like the Jerusalem church, which was "of one heart and soul", as we grow together, support each other, and reach out to our neighbors and the world with the good news of Jesus Christ.

Committed to Truth and Unity

We firmly and unapologetically uphold the core doctrines of the faith. At the same time we realize there are issues on which we can respectfully disagree, and we don’t ever want those things to divide us. We don’t believe unity comes from everyone thinking exactly the same way, but from a spirit of brotherly love and humility born of a common love for Jesus Christ. We embrace the dictum church historian Philip Schaff called “the watchword of Christian peacemakers”: In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things charity. In that spirit, we endeavor to identify and utilize the unique gifts, skills, and ideas of all members, young and old, in order to be a community where everyone contributes and everyone benefits. We strive to be tolerant of knowledge differences, intolerant of sin.

Non-Denominational

We are an autonomous, self-governing church. Our desire is simply to be Christians who are faithful to the word of God in all things. See our statement of faith here.

Family Integrated

At South Tapps Church, our families worship together. We do this for many reasons, but John Piper gets to the heart of the matter:

Parents have the responsibility to teach their children by their own example the meaning and value of worship. Therefore, parents should want their children with them in worship so the children can catch the spirit and form of their parents’ worship.Children should see Mom and Dad bow their heads in earnest prayer during the prelude and other non-directed times. They should see how Mom and Dad sing praise to God with joy in their faces, and how they listen hungrily to His Word. They should catch the spirit of their parents meeting the living God.Something seems wrong when parents want to take their children in the formative years and put them with other children and other adults to form their attitude and behavior in worship. Parents should be jealous to model for their children the tremendous value they put on reverence in the presence of Almighty God.

Committed to Church Planting and Missions

God has entrusted the church with the vital work of sharing the gospel locally and throughout the world. At South Tapps, we are 100% dedicated to that mission. That dedication manifests itself in our strong commitment to church planting and worldwide missions. Our goal is not to become a mega-church, but to be a multiplying church. That means equipping individuals and families to be sent out to plant healthy churches in nearby communities. It means supporting missionaries abroad financially and in prayer. It means engaging in missionary work ourselves. Our great desire is to follow Jesus in continually being “about our Father’s business“.
