- What’s the most important thing you can be doing in Life?Story: "Timmy, Sarah, and the Secret Mission"It was a sunny Sunday afternoon after church, and Timmy and Sarah were playing outside in their backyard. They had just learned in Sunday School about the Great Commission, and Timmy was still trying to figure it out.“Sarah,” Timmy asked, “what do you think a commission is? It sounds like a spy word.”Sarah giggled. “It kind of is! Miss Rachel said it’s like getting a mission from Jesus. Like… when a king gives you a job to do.”Timmy’s eyes lit up. “So… Jesus is the King. And because He’s alive again, He’s giving us a top-secret mission?”“Not so secret,” said Sarah wisely. “We’re supposed to tell everyone about Him! That He’s alive, that He loves them, and that they can follow Him too!”Timmy grabbed a stick and pointed it like a sword. “Then I shall go! To the neighbor’s yard and beyond!”Sarah laughed, but then grew thoughtful. “But it’s not just about going somewhere far. Jesus said we need to make disciples. That means helping people know Him, and then teaching them how to live like He did.”Timmy scratched his head. “That sounds harder than just going. But… Jesus said He’d be with us always, right?”Sarah nodded. “Always. Even when we’re scared, or when we don’t know what to say.”Timmy picked up a rock and set it on top of a tree stump. “Then this is our headquarters,” he said with a grin. “Mission: Tell the world Jesus is alive. Team: Timmy and Sarah. Helper: Jesus, forever!”Sarah saluted. “Mission accepted.”And with that, they grabbed their Bibles and ran inside—to write letters to their cousins about Jesus, because even kids can be part of the Great Commission. We all have alot to do in Life, many of us are very busy people. But it important for us to ask, are we busy doing the right things?notice I never said good things.its good to do good things.
Galatians 6:9–10 NASB95 9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. 10 So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.Ephesians 2:10 NASB95 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.Matthew 5:16 NASB95 16 “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.Yes God want us to do good thingsbut its even more critical to do the right thingsand what are the Right thingsthe things God is calling you to do!Thats why I began with the quesition:What’s the most important thing you can be doing in Life?Imagine a man spending his whole life climbing a ladder. He works hard, long hours. He sacrifices time with his family, his health, even his spiritual life — all to get higher and higher up the ladder of success. One day, when he finally reaches the top, he looks around and realizes… the ladder was leaning against the wrong wall.He was successful, yes — but in something that didn’t matter eternally. He gained recognition, comfort, and status… but missed the very thing he was created for: knowing God and fulfilling His mission.no one whats to come to end of a busy life, only do discover they we doing the wrong things all alongSo how do we know what the “Right” things are?Good for us God is not silent on this questionTheme:The resurrection isn’t the end of the story—it’s the launching point. Jesus rose not only to conquer sin and death, but to send His followers into the world with divine authority and a mission that matters eternally.Primary Text:Matthew 28:18–20 NASB95 18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”I declare, the most important thing you can do in Life is Loving God, the second is Loving others, so they can love God and others too.As Pastor Trevor talked about last week, check it out online if you missed it! Obedience is the key that is founded in LoveSermon OutlineI. The Authority of the Risen ChristMatthew 28:18 NASB95 18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.Jesus begins the Great Commission not with a command, but a declaration:“All authority… has been given to me.”His resurrection proves His sovereignty over sin, death, hell, and every spiritual power.Implication:What does this mean for us?We go not in our strength, but in His divine authority and victory.Cross-Reference:Philippians 2:9–11 NASB95 9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.Key Thought: The Great Commission is rooted in resurrection power and authority.II. The Mission to Make DisciplesMatthew 28:19 NASB95 19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,Go – an intentional, outward-moving action.Make disciples – not just converts, but followers who obey Jesus. All nations – no one is excluded; the gospel is for every tribe and tongue.Supporting Texts:Acts 1:8 NASB95 8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”Revelation 7:9 NASB95 9 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands;Key Thought:The resurrection compels us to go—with urgency, with love, and with the good news.III. The Call to Teach ObedienceMatthew 28:20 NASB95 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”Discipleship isn’t just conversion; it includes teaching and training in obedience.Jesus modeled discipleship throughrelationship, teaching, correction, and empowerment. Our task: help people walk with Jesus, not just know about Him.Application:Local: How are we discipling in our homes, churches, and communities?Global: Are we supporting missions and reaching unreached people groups?Key Thought:We are spiritual guides, not just messengers.IV. The Promise of His PresenceMatthew 28:20bMatthew 28:20 NASB95 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”“I am with you always…” – His presence empowers, sustains, and encourages us.We’re never alone in fulfilling the Commission;Emmanuel is with us.Cross-Reference:John 20:21–22 – “As the Father sent Me, I am sending you… Receive the Holy Spirit.”Key Thought:The mission is possible because Jesus goes with us by His Spirit. Conclusion: Commissioned to GoCall to Action:Personal: Where is Jesus calling you to “go”? (family, workplace, neighbors)Church-wide: Are we actively discipling others, not just gathering attenders?Global: Are we praying, giving, sending, or going to the nations?Final Challenge: The resurrection gives us victory; the commission gives us purpose.
