- Congratulations to Dan and Hailey Griffin,William Griffin born May 24th 9lb 7.7 oz.Be praying for the griffin family in this exciting season f their life.IntroGood Morning Church familyDoes your family ever drive you crazy? Does your brother or sister know even as adults what buttons to push and how to get under your skin.I love my family so much, I am the 4th of five and Ill tell you my older siblings especially knew exactly how to rial me up and I was a fighterMany different ideas views andEven today as adults we still go back and forth yet my parents instilled in us a deep sense of belonging and unity to each other. We belong to a family that has so many different views and opinion that your head would be spinning on thanksgiving yet we seek to practice servant hearted unity and love towards one another, have each others back.In the same way Christ is calling his church to set aside our differences and bickering and be united in the family of faith.Transition:Main Exposition>SLIDEMain Point: Christ calls His church to servant hearted unity.Believers are called to live in complete harmony with the Lord, their family and their church.Division often comes easy but we as believers are called to a higher standard, that is to serve one another by setting aside our pride, preferences and differences and living in biblical harmony. We do this by being united in worship of Christ, being of one mind with Him and of course being united with our savior.Transitional sentence>SLIDEUnited with Christ, First and foremostMen and woman of God must be united with Christ.Philippians 2:1–2 “So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.”If we are united at one point we were divided. Or separated.See sin separates us from God. Before the fall we lived with Christ in unity, humanity walked with God and we dwelt with Him in the garden of eden but then when Adam sinned he was both physically separated from God and was cast out of the garden but spiritually as well.Adams sin, that has been passed down from generation to generation, separated him from the God. It became generational poison that has affected every human living today.Isaiah 59:2 “but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.”Because of our sin, You Are divided from God.Until you are reunited with Christ you are actually at war with the kingdom of God and are separated from Jesus. You can not live out true humility, service and sacrifice until you welcome the Good shepherd into your heart. All throughout the OT are shadows of how God will be united with his people again and tabernacle or dwell with them again.Unity starts with a relationship with Jesus, we must first be in Christ and Christ must dwell or tabernacle within us through the Holy Spirit. In John 1:14. The Greek word translated “dwelt” literally means “tabernacled,”Basically what this means is that we must be in Christ by accepting him as our Lord and savior. We have to bend our knee to the Lordship of Jesus to be reunited with him.We have Unity with the Father because Jesus was obedient to death, went to the cross and conquered the grave. He did not just die any death but he was falsely prosecuted, and condemned to a violent criminals death at which at any point he could have refused yet He willingly went to the cross and suffered so that I may have life with Him.He was tortured, abused and mocked and scorn. He was smitten, and rejected by men and he took on the chastizment of all mankind. When verse 8 says obedient to the point of death, it is so powerful because he was obedient and accepted a brutal physical death and punishment that he did not deserve but all the sin of the world was poured onto his shoulders so that you could be reunited with the Father.Jesus became the sin sacrifice that reunites us with the Father.Because Jesus is the Holy Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, The whole OT was shadows and signs that point to Jesus and all of the Ot was waiting for the day that Jesus would come and be the final sacrifice for all who wold believe.Phil 2 tells us thatGod the Father has given Jesus the name is above every other name and has given Jesus extreme superior honor. he is high and lifted up.And there will be a day when the Lord is reunited with his bride the church and at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow and every tribe and tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.It is this Jesus, our Lord who is calling you to lay down your pride, your disputes and your differences with your church family, and worship Him.Christ is calling you to be reunited with Him.>SLIDEBelievers are called to be united in mind with Christ. In other words we must have the mind of Christ.Having the mind of Christ means adopting his fundamental reorientation toward humility, obedience, and self-surrender.Philippians 2:5–8 “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”Jesus exemplifies three important characteristics here in Phil 2.First is that Jesus was obedient to the FatherJesus was on a mission from before His birth to reunite God’s lost sheep with the Father.See it was the Lords plan before the foundation of the world to send to Jesus to the cross . The cross was not a backup plan but it was the mission from the beginning. And guess what, through the gosepls Jesus was presented with opportunities to stray from God the Fathers plans but yet he submitted to the Fathers will. When Jesus was being tempted by Satan in the wilderness he could have chosen to be an earthly king and or a powerful ruler and give in to the pleasures of the world. On the mount of olives in the garden of gethsemony which btw is a complete reversal of what happned in Gen at the garden of eden, Jesus could have chosen to abandon God’s plan but instead he sweat blood and said Father your will be done.He was obedient to the point of death. He took on the chasiszment of man and curse of sin and died on a tree so that we could be united with Him.Jesus was obedient to the Father and in the same wayTo have the mind of Christ means to be obedient and realign the believers own thoughts and desires to what the Lord says is good and valuable. It means to submit yourself under the Lords authority and to view Scripture as your highest authority and the supreme court of your life.In your actions and decision making to embody biblical values and use the Bible to determine your actions. To stand for biblical values when they are unpopularTo prioritize time in His word each dayTo put into practice the values of scripture into your everyday life and to follow where the Lord leads. To have the mind of Christ means to be obedient to Christ and his word.2. The second attribute of Christ in Phil 2 is humility. Jesus humbled himself and took on human form. The word became flesh.Humility means viewing or esteeming others greater than yourself. To Regard others as worthy of greater consideration and give attention toward the interests of others. It means to teat everyone, even people who the world might say are lower than you, with respect, dignity and Christlike character.Genuine humility means valuing others above yourself and actively investing in the welfare of others rather than pursuing your own personal gain.Jesus did this when he emptied himself and took on the likeness of man in human form.Basically Jesus saw humanity's need for a savior and humbled himself for the interest of others and was born in the likeness of men.He was humble by being obedient to the fathers plans and desires even if it meant death and sacrifice.Verse 6 tells us that The posture of humility finds its ultimate model in Christ, who despite his divine nature, renounced his status, assumed the role of a servant, and submitted himself to death on a cross.Do you see how these themes kind of over lap and are united.3. Jesus became a servant. Servanthood is a defining attribute of Christ.Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.””Jesus in His ministry served others by healing the sick, feeding the hungry, raising the dead and making the blind see.Jesus took the unclean, the unholy and made them Hoy.But he servanthood not just fulfilling the phycal needs but the spiritual sanctifying needs as well.Jesus through His servanthood ministry gave men not just a reason to live and work but a reason to sacrifice their own lives to a serve someone greater.Jesus took on the role of a servant and washed his disciples feet.Though Jesus deserved the highest praise and greatest servitude from others, he humbled himself and took the form of a servant.Believes must do the same. Men and woman of God are called to serve the Lord, their family's and their church in Christlike humility.English Standard Version Chapter 2
3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others
Look to the interest of others and seek ways to fulfill their needs.Because we are called to be united in one mind with Christ and his body.An overflow of being of one mind with Christ is to be united in worshiping Him.>SLIDEBelievers are called to be united in worship of Christ.Philippians 2:9–11 “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”To be united in worship of Christ means toRecognize Jesus is worthy of worship.Jesus is highly exalted which means He is lifted up, honored, and placed in a position of supreme authority and dignity. It brings glory to God when believers bow their knee to Jesus and confess that He alone is Lord.2. There is one body that belongs to Christ.Christian denominations may differ on second tear theology yet we know that we are united in the core principles of the faith that Christ is Lord.It is actually good to disagree sometimes on second tear issues like baptism or communion however we have to know which hills to die on.Christians are united in the belief that Jesus Christ is Lord, the Holy Son of God who takes away the sin of the world.Anyone that seeks to drift or deconstruct core first tear theological stances are not united with Christ and thus not believers.Even though there are different denominations, to be a Christian is to have a shared allegiance to Christ.3. Live in genuine harmony with your church family.Philippians 2:14–15 “Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,”To live in harmony with the church body to live sacrificially and to give up your wants and desires for the needs of others.Instead of grumbling and complaining about the things you don't like, celebrate the wins of others and seek to edify the body.True unity is seeking to live without blemish with other believers. If believers want to be a light shining in a dark world they must be united with Christ, serving and worshiping Him with a humble spirit.>SLIDEApplication: Seek to be servant hearted in every situation. At the end of the day, true unity has to come from a place a servitude.Servant hearted unity is about setting aside your own prefrences and opinion but yet also knowing what hills to die on.To be united is to practice sacrificial love that outs the needs of the body avouve your own wants and desires.True unity happens when the body puts pride to death and defers to one another. We are believers are called to Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit and appeal to the interests of others.Philippians 2:2–4 “complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”Serve your Church.Serving your church is a sacrificial love that honors God and his people. It edifies or builds up the body of believers and grows their faith.Serving the church family also shows what you value because where you put your treasure their your heart will be also.Idk about you but as a young dad, my time is a great treasure. So when I put that time towards serving the body, I am storing up treasure in heaven but I am also showing that man I value the church family. I am putting my treasure with the Lord and His family.2. Serve Your FamilyServing your family is essential for men and women of God.Serving your family looks like being of one mind. Being united. Remembering your on the same team fighting not aginaist each other but fighting against satan who wants to steal kill and destroy your family.Men and women need to be fighting for biblical values and the sanctification of their family unit.Serving your family like Christ looks like putting pride to death and doing nothing from conceit.Conceit means to an inflated sense of one’s own abilities, wisdom, or worth—a unholy conviction that you’re smarter or better than you actually are. It’s fundamentally a distortion of self-perception.Basically it means you think your better. But actually Men and women of God are to show humility and christlike love to their spouse and children. We all fall short of the glory of God, all of us have strayed, we are no better than anyone else.To serve your family looks like putting their needs above your own. We must exhibit sacrifical love and deep humility and when we do we are not just serving our family or church but we are serving the Lord.3. Serve God aloneWe serve God by putting our faith and trust in Jesus Christ and serving Him as King.To Serve Jesus is to Make your relationship with Jesus the highest priority in your life.Place Jesus above your spouse, kids, job, career, everythingServe Jesus by the way you live. The relationship you have with Jesus is the most important one you will ever have.Bow your knee to the Lordship of Jesus because there will be a day when all heaven and earth confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.>SLIDEConclusionOutlineMain Idea: Christ calls His church to servant hearted unity.Men and Woman of God must be united with Christ.2.
