  • Lord I Need You

  • Introduction

    The world can make you feel really small.
    From being down in the bottom of the Grand Canyon.
    To standing at the edge of the Rocky Mountains.
    Too staring up at the giant Redwoods.
    And if creation is that big, how much bigger must God be!
    King David had that same conclusion.
    When you think about God, it gives you reason to praise Him.

    Remember Your Experience

    v. 1
    David’s Praise is caused by his experience.
    David, before he was king, served under the current king, Saul.
    Saul was not a good guy. And David was very popular!
    People will sing about how great David was, and it would make Saul jealous.
    So Saul decided he would try to hurt David, and David left!
    But went to their enemy, a king named Abimelech or Achish.
    But they were afraid of him, too! 1 Sam. 21:10-12
    So, when they brought him before their king, this is what happened:
    1 Samuel 21:13–15 ESV
    So he changed his behavior before them and pretended to be insane in their hands and made marks on the doors of the gate and let his spittle run down his beard. Then Achish said to his servants, “Behold, you see the man is mad. Why then have you brought him to me? Do I lack madmen, that you have brought this fellow to behave as a madman in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?”
    This Psalm, Psalm 34 is what David wrote after this experience.
    David recognizes that God rescued him.
    Do you see God? Seeing what God is doing in your life?
    Just the fact that you are here this morning, that is God!
    Why? Because He loves you and wants you to know you can have eternal life!

    Remember Your Place

    v. 2
    David’s praise is caused by his perspective.
    “Main character energy” = confidence, self-assuredness, and charism.
    Or, “someone who wants to be the center of attention or more focus on them.”
    Everyone else is a supporting character to their story.
    Instead, David recognizes how small he is compared to God.
    I’m only something because God. And I’m thankful for that!
    Do you see God? For how big He is!
    And how much He loves you!

    Remember Your People

    v. 3
    After David considers all that God has done for him, he wants others to experience that as well!
    It’s like if you found something really cool, a new place to play or a great game. You want to share that with your friends!
    David’s praise is caused by his community.
    An invitation to worship together.
    Church - the way the Bible uses that word - it isn’t a building.
    The church is always the people.
    People who are connected. Friendship, Family.
    Let’s see God together!
    Making a connection with others.
    Some of you, first time connecting here.

    Conclusion

    Two Christmases ago, got Shawn a telescope. Got it out once.
    I keep thinking, we will get it out and look at stuff through it!
    But, we have to take time to do that.
    Do you take time to see God?
    Having the opportunity isn’t the same as actually doing it.
    God sees you and He loves you.
    God desires to give you eternal life, forgiveness of sin, and a life filled with purpose!
    Will you receive it?
