  • Multitude of Ministers

    Ministry is CRUCIAL
    ILLUST:
Have you ever seen a well-tuned orchestra? Each instrument plays a different role, but together they create a beautiful symphony. In our church, when everyone serves in their unique way, we create harmony! Don’t underestimate your part; even the smallest contribution can change the sound of the whole performance. Serving together, we can make music for God!
    40-50 people in a chamber orchestra…
    (check our attendance)
Which part of the orchestra can you do without?
Think of Cornerstone as a chamber orchestra
Which of you can we do without?
    The conductor thanks the orchestra
Shakes hands with the concertmaster, who represents the orchestra
From me to you, THANK YOU for your service to this church, to this ministry, to this “orchestra”
    READ Romans 16
(Let’s look at aspects of this multitude of ministry)

    1) Ministry is Service

    And service is ministry
Note the list here, 29 names?
    Notable efforts and descriptions
Notable women, commended for work, hard work
    Hard MINISTRY work!
    Weary from service
Some single, some married, younger, older
Paul thanks them - he may not have even met some
    Yet their service is known!
Their church, their local church thrived, in ROME
Because it was important to them, each of them
And each of them knew it took service to make that happen
    Saved first
    Then surrendered
    The surrendered life is personal
And the surrendered life is about Jesus
Shown especially in the un-named mother of Rufus
(Rufus’ father carried the cross of Jesus, some impact, Simon’s wife, Rufus’ mother, served the church…)

    2) Ministry is a Team Effort

    WE have a ministry here
    I am a minister
    You are a minister
Easier to be diligent in the truth with others
Hard work is easier with others alongside
Satan uses a team of demons, literally, to cause division, doubt, disruption
Why do you think you can manage this world alone?
Teams who win are good at defense
Ephesians 6 - Full Armor of God
ONE piece that is used for offense - The Word
    The rest is for defense
In the middle of the thanks, the back-slapping, the “way to go!” …
BE CAREFUL - BE ON THE ALERT - vv 17f
The church was strong because of strong believers being diligent to be strong
Still…false teaching can creep in, b/c it sounds and feels “good”
The way to avoid this? The way to recognize the false?
Be diligent to be in the truth - as in 2 Tim 2:15
    2 Timothy 2:15 NASB95
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
Failure to do this will cause division in the church at Rome
ASIDE: I am very protective here
Desiring for more to be in the Word, to know the truth
Even here, our area - false teaching abounds
Failure to discern truth will cause division here
    It’s not just about knowledge
False teaching is how Satan works here
Destroying families, elevating the self, stirring complacency, “feeling good” and ignoring un-addressed sin in our lives
POINT - You cannot discern error if you have not learned truth
You end up learning from sound bytes and memes
False teaching is cheap - and can cost you so much
OLLIE’S - Joyce Meyer, Joel Osteen, TD Jakes - cheap, attractive books - full of half-truths
    Romans to this point
    1-11 - being saved
12 - the transformed life of the surrendered believer
13-16 - Where we live every day - the life of the believer, we show others

    3) Ministry is How We Reflect God’s Glory

    Put it all (Romans) together
    Saved, Surrendered, and Serving
Want to know God’s plan for your life? There it is!
    REM - Romans 1:11
    Romans 1:11 NASB95
    For I long to see you so that I may impart some spiritual gift to you, that you may be established;
    Established = strengthened
Desire for the church in Rome to be strong and grow stronger
God’s gift of the church - was not to establish a social club
Can we benefit here socially? Of course
But…his gift of the church was to be THE primary means of pointing to His glory, to grow his kingdom, through the love and gift of Jesus
Saved - you acknowledge that gift, repent and believe
Surrendered - you resist conforming to this world, by way of your transformed mind
Serving - you express the surrendered life by serving God by serving others
    GLORIOUS!
I share a common goal with Paul
To see this church - Cornerstone - strong and growing stronger
If I can help in that effort, I am humbled and praise God
Do you share that goal as well?
    To see us grow stronger?
You CAN help in that effort

    The Romans Challenge

    When did you get saved?

    What were the circumstances?

How have you surrendered to the Lord?

Where are you struggling with that transformation, that renewing of your mind?
    Yielding to the Spirit?

How are you serving the Lord?

Your gifts are to be used to grow
Your gifts are to be used to strengthen your family
Your gifts are to be used to strengthen this church
VV. 25 - 27 - LAST WORDS TO THAT CHURCH - Beneficial to us
    All for His glory!
Jesus, the Messiah has been revealed - the Gospel is truth
Shown in the Scriptures - made known to all (commanded to obey)
With the goal of obedient faith
THIS IS THE WISDOM OF GOD
    The glory is His, forever.
So, get over yourself, and live for Him
You need to be honest about where you are spiritually
The lost need you to show them the way
    Believers need spiritual support
Square up your relationship with Yahweh
    Surrender to Him
    Serve alongside others
    The glory is His, forever
So check your heart, own your salvation, surrender to Him, and serve Him like you say you love Him
    The glory is His, forever.
