  • Why do we have sin?

    Because of Adam’s failure
From Romans 5:12–17, he’s saying that when the first Adam failed to live a perfect life, humanity inherited a sinful nature.
Because God limits His power of sovereignty
He notes from Psalm 147:5–9 that God could stop everything but chooses not to override human choices—He allows free will. This is why sin exists even though God is sovereign.
    Because sin is appealing
He describes sin as a “sweet poison” that tickles and tricks you as it takes over. People choose the passion of sin over the cure God offers.

    Why we pursue sin

To fill an infinite hole with momentary pleasure
Using James 1:14–15 and Jeremiah 2:5, he says people chase sin thinking it satisfies something deep inside.
    Because we are spiritually dead
From Ephesians 2 and John 4, he compares sin to water in a desert—something we drink to survive, even though it doesn’t last.
Because sin is quick and easy
Matthew 7:13 — the wide gate is easy, and people naturally take it.

    Why God allows sin

Because love isn’t love if it’s forced
Citing 1 Corinthians 13:4–7, he says God doesn’t force Himself on anyone. Forced love isn’t real love.
    Because God is consistently loving
Psalm 136:1—God’s love is steady and patient, even when people sin.
God knowing sin will happen doesn’t mean He causes it
His point is about God’s foreknowledge versus forcing events to occur.

How we can relieve (or be free from) our sin

By trusting in Christ as Lord and Savior
Romans 10:9–10 and John 14:6 — salvation is through Christ.
We are saved through Christ alone
Ephesians 2:8–9 — salvation is not by works.
The thief on the cross proves we only need Christ
Luke 23:43 — even at the last moment, faith in Christ saves.

Why we can be free from our sin

    Because Jesus died for us
Romans 7:11 — His death breaks sin’s power.
Because Jesus lived the perfect life that Adam failed to live
Hebrews 4:15 — Jesus is the “Last Adam” who succeeded where the first failed.
Because humans couldn’t be perfect on their own
We failed as the first Adam; Jesus, fully God and fully man, lived perfectly and died for us.

What happens when we do get saved

We don’t have to obey sin anymore
Romans 6:11–17 — believers are freed from sin’s rule.
We will have the fruit of the Spirit in our lives
Galatians 5:22–26 — salvation produces real heart change.
    We will have a mission
Mark 16:15–16 — believers are called to go and tell others.
    We will have eternal security
2 Corinthians 5:1 — salvation leads to a guaranteed home in heaven.
