  • O Come, All Ye Faithful
  • Romans 10:8–17 KJV 1900
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
    Title: The Progression of Faith
There is a key formula or equation that must not be missed in this passage.
Just like in any scientific formula or mathematical equation, when the formula is properly is worked, it produces a specific result.
1 + 1 = 2 is a formula that is established and no matter what you do, will never change.
    Language does not change this
    Culture does not change this.
    Circumstance does not change this.
What you think does not change this.
There is also a formula for pleasing God that is just as clear, just as unwavering as 1 + 1 = 2.
The text book of formulas is the Word of God.
To be a good person: Proverbs, Micah, Psalms, Matthew, Luke, James, Romans, Galatians, Ephesians, 1 John, 1 Corinthians - all deal with how to be a good person.
The Bible is full of formulas that all point to one thing: pleasing God.
    Understanding God
    Creation and humanity
    Purpose
    Sin and redemption
    Promises
    God’s love and faithfulness
    Justice and Mercy
    Faith and obedience
    Salvation and deliverance
    Worship and praise
    Community and unity
    Hope and restoration
All of these and MORE are in the pages of the Word of God.
Formulas, equations that if you will work, WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
Saying: It’s as easy as falling off a log…
    F = GMm/R²
    GRAVITY!
When you live the Word of God, It’s as easy as falling off a log!
Most key formula of the Bible is salvation
    Romans 10:2 KJV 1900
2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
Zeal: intense, positive interest in something - faith
    Knowledge: recognition
They had zeal, passion for God but never recognized him Him for who is was.
They had zeal, passion for God but never built a relationship with him.
Salvation begins with an interest that leads to a recognition that there is something greater than me out there!
The belief that there is a God who can speak peace into my chaotic life!
To be saved, one must have faith and believe!
That faith and belief begins to produce righteousness.
Look at the story of the Rich Young ruler in Mark 10.
Step by step formula Jesus presented to him until the final step…
    Jesus was drawing him along…
    Through the process.
    One think you lack….
He went away sorrowful because he was not willing to follow the formula!
KEY: hear the Word of God.
You cannot stop or change the formula or process!
    Formula: James1.22
    James 1:22 KJV 1900
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
Hear the voice of God + obey = Blessed and fulfilled (verse 25)
Faith mixed with the Word produces confession!
A recognition that you need help!
    Faith + Word + Confession = Profession
Much used statement today… so watered down that it means nothing.
When the first century church made a profession of faith - Jesus is Lord - they were in the same sentence professing that Ceasar was NOT lord!
    Why so many were killed!
If you will work the Biblical formulas, your life will be changed forever!
Things in our lives to help us figure out the formulas
House of God - Church attendance is critical to your spiritual survival
People of God - you that are spiritual strengthen the weak
Spirit of God - our teacher leading and guiding us
Man of God - leading and directing the Church of God
Word of God - Final authority
    Conclusion:
    Where/when does salvation begin?
When is a house painted and when does it begin?
    Begins w a thought
Complete when paints purchased, paint applied, tools are cleaned up and in there proper place.
Jesus paid the price, you have to think the thought, apply the blood, get cleaned up and in your proper place!
  • Philippians 2:10–11 KJV 1900
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
    Title: Down From His Glory
    Last week:
Began a four seek series based on some of the old songs…
Last week’s song was All in Him
This week: Down from His Glory - written in 1906 by E. Booth-Clibborn
Verse 1: Down from His glory, Ever-living story, My God and Savior came, And Jesus was His name. Born in a manger, To His own a stranger, A Man of sorrows, tears, and agony. Chorus: O how I love Him! How I adore Him! My breath, my sunshine, My all in all! The great Creator Became my Savior, And all God's fullness Dwelleth in Him.
What a beautiful old song about a God who loved his creation so much that he stepped down from not only the beauty of heaven, but the glory of who he was to save his people!
We have difficulty understanding the word glory.
Bible dictionaries and lexicons use words like splendour, majesty and vigour to explain the word glory…
    Psalm 8:1 KJV 1900
1 O Lord our Lord, How excellent is thy name in all the earth! Who hast set thy glory above the heavens.
Moses prayed to see the Glory of God
    Exodus 33:18 KJV 1900
18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.
This is very interesting because Moses and God had a special relationship
Look at all the things that God had already shown him:
Spoke to him from burning bush
Spoke to him and convinced him with miracles to go back to Egypt and lead his people out
    Miracles before Pharaoh
    10 plagues
    God makes them all rich
    Red Sea parts
    Egyptian army wiped out
Been on Sinai talking with God
NOT ENOUGH for Moses: I WANT TO SEE YOUR GLORY!
My current knowledge, experience with and of you IS NOT ENOUGH!
In a time when everyone is saved…
In a time when no one is thinking about eternity…
    WE MUST THINK LIKE MOSES!
Verse 2: What condescension, Bringing us redemption, That in the dead of night, Not one faint hope in sight, God, gracious, tender, Laid aside His splendor, Stooping to woo, to win, to save my soul.
God robed himself in flesh to save us!
But when he came, no on new who he was!
    Luke 2:7 (KJV 1900)
7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
NO ROOM: seemed to be the theme of His coming…
    He was born in humility
    Rejected by his own people
    Humbled on a cross
Buried in a tomb he did not own
    BUT HE CAME ANYWAY
All these generations later, it seems that the theme still holds… NO ROOM
    Philippians 2:6–8 KJV 1900
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Jesus was born of Mary, and born of God.
Making him fully man and fully God!
    The Contrast:
As a man he was tempted, as God he did not sin (1 Cor. 10:13, Heb. 4:15)
As God Jesus was omniscient, as a man he had to grow in wisdom and stature (Lk 2:40)
As a man he was weary, tired and hungry, as God he was omnipotent
As God is was omnipresent, as a man he was bound to his body
    He could:
Sleep one minute and calm the storm the next minute
Speak as man one moment, as God the next
Verse 3: Without reluctance, Flesh and blood His substance, He took the form of man, Revealed the hidden plan. O glorious mystery, Sacrifice of Calv’ry, And now I know Thou art the great I Am.
John would start his gospel with this understanding…
    John 1:1 KJV 1900
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
    John 1:14 KJV 1900
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
    No wonder that E. Booth-Clibborn course would say;
Chorus: O how I love Him! How I adore Him! My breath, my sunshine, My all in all! The great Creator Became my Savior, And all God's fullness Dwelleth in Him.
Conclusion: We MUST love and seek this God who left Glory for us!
Matthew, Mark and Luke all recorded Jesus as saying that we must love the Lord with all our heart, soul and mind!
    The First Command
When we do the first command, the second is the natural next step…
    Love your neighbor as yourself!
    How do you love yourself?
Enough to make room for Jesus!
THEREFORE: you teach others to do the same!
We must make God a priority in our lives.
We must prioritize what HE prioritized.
    Woman at the well:
    Jesus prioritized her, loved her.
    NOTE: disagreement is not hate
Jesus helped her in her sin…
She then runs to tell her story!
