2 Timothy 3:1–9 KJV 1900
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. 9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.

We have an unconscious habit - really really bad habit - of viewing the bible one of two ways...
A book of divine history that gives us insight into daily life.
A book of divine prophecies that warn us of what is to come.

Not one of us would argue that bible is not the inspired Word of God…
Not one of us would question that the Bible is important…
But we have this surreal view of the bible.
It’s really important but because we are thousands of years from its last prophecy, it is easy to view is as something from the past or something that will be fulfilled at some point in the future!
WE HAVE GOT TO AWAKE TO THE REALITY THAT WE ARE LIVING IN THE VERY TIMES THAT THE BIBLE SPEAKS OF!

Paul could well have said to Timothy, “Tim, the year 2024 will be a time that is troublesome and difficult.”!

Timothy, in 2024 the church will have to have…
unfeigned faith
be strong in the grace of Christ
work for God’s approval by study and devotion
run from youthful mistakes and lust
Because 2024 is going to be a difficult time for the church if they don’t make me a priority!

The church in 2024 will be immersed in a society that is…
selfish
greedy
boastful
arrogant
revilers - defaming, denigrating, demeaning (specifically the use of words)
disobedient to parents
I have never heard so many parents make the statement “I just can’t make my kid mind…”
ungrateful
unholy -wicked, without moral turpitude (vile, shameful, base character, depraved)
unloving
irreconcilable - unwilling to negotiate a solution
malicious gossips
without self control
brutal
haters of good
treacherous - traitors and betrayers
reckless, thoughtless
conceited
lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God - ENTERTAINMENT 22 Billion in US/2.6 Trillion worldwide in 2022
from of of godliness, denied its power - look like christians but refuse to allow God to change them
oppose truth
Avoid that society!

What do we do when we wake up and realize that we are living in the day that Paul warned Timothy that we are in!

Paul would continue:
Follow my teaching
look at how I have lived
My purpose
my faith
my patience
my love
my perseverance
my persecutions

Don’t be shocked at that day!
Evil men and seducers shall get worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived…
Timothy, that generation will have to pay attention because it will be a hard time to serve the Lord!
But you know what to do…
You’ve heard since you were a child…
Hold fast to the sacred things!

THEN - all scripture is given by God…

What is the solution?
vs. 16 - Wake up to the Word of God!!
My goal as your pastor in 2024 is for the Word of God become a living, daily influence in your life!
