    Moveable Mountain

1Corinthians 6:19 “…do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?”

In the Old Testament, you will find a very common phrase, “the mountain of the Lord”. This expression is used about going before God, as seen in: "Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob.” (Micah 4:2 and Isaiah 2:3)

This is because the temple was built upon a mountain top in Jerusalem called Mount Moriah.

What I would like us to consider is that we are God’s temple. The Holy Spirit dwells within us. We don’t have to “go up to the mountain” anymore to approach our heavenly Father. Our heavenly Father has brought the mountain down and He has raised us up to be on the same level.

We are the temple of God!

    We are a “portable” mountaintop!

From this perspective, whenever we are going through trials or “valley” experiences, we can refocus our attention to the fact that we are the Temple of God and He is in/with us. It helps the valley not to seem so deep and God no longer seems so far away.

The choice is ours. We can trudge through a valley or rejoice upon a mountaintop.

The difference is the presence of God. No, He doesn’t abandon us in the valley. He is always with us and will never leave. We just tend to allow our focus to drift to our circumstances and we forget where He resides, similarly to how Peter was distracted by the wind and the waves and began to sink when he took his eyes off Jesus.

What I am inferring is this: We can enjoy mountaintop living no matter what life brings our way. The choice, as in so many things, is ours!

Isaiah 57:13 “…he who puts his trust in Me (God) shall possess the land, and shall inherit My holy mountain."
