    Paul’s Time in Troas
    The Aroma We Exude
Not Peddling the Word of God

The Saints in Corinth are Paul’s Letter of Commendation, 2 Corinthians 3:1-4

Do We Begin Again to Commend Ourselves To You? 2 Corinthians 3:1
    2 Corinthians 3:1
Do we begin again for ourselves to commend ourselves? Except we need, as some, a letter of recommendation towards you or out from your recommendation?
Are We Introducing or Demonstrating Ourselves To you Again?
Did Paul need to prove to them who he is again
Does He need a Letter or Recommendation For them or From Them?
They Know Who Paul Is, for They are His Letter, 2 Corinthians 3:2
    2 Corinthians 3:2
You are our epistle, having been written (ἐγγεγραμμένη) in our hearts, experientially known (γινωσκομένη) and read (ἀναγινωσκομένη) by all men,
They are written in his heart
All can see this by experiencing it and reading it
While all See They are an Epistle of Christ, 2 Corinthians 3:3
    2 Corinthians 3:3
while manifesting that you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, having been written not with ink but by [the] Spirit of [the] living God, not on tablets of stone, but on tablets of a fleshly heart
The Epistle they are is not written with ink
It impacts the heart, which affects our actions
Our Heart is our center, where our spirit and soul combine and where our person resides
It is always those around another person who show who that person really is
Paul’s Confidence is through Christ facing God, 2 Corinthians 3:4
    2 Corinthians 3:4
And we have confidence of such kind through the Christ facing God.

God is the One Who Made Us Sufficient Ministers of a New Covenant, 2 Corinthians 3:5-6

God is the One Who Made us Sufficient, 2 Corinthians 3:5
    2 Corinthians 3:5
Not that we are sufficient from ourselves to consider anything as out from ourselves, but our sufficiency [is] out from God,
Sufficient - One who is qualified
The Centurion Speaking to Christ Concerning His Servant, Matthew 8:8
    Matthew 8:8 (NASB95)
But the centurion said, “Lord, I am not worthy (ἱκανὸς) for You to come under my roof, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
Those who are sufficient (qualified) to teach, 2 Timothy 2:2
    2 Timothy 2:2 (NASB95)
The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able (ἱκανοὶ) to teach others (ἑτέρους) also.
As with Paul, our sufficiency is through Christ, not ourselves
Our Credentials mean nothing if we are not speaking the truth
The sufficiency we have comes from God And is Shown by Those We Impact Through Living Out Who We Are in Christ
Ministers of a New Covenant, 2 Corinthians 3:6
    2 Corinthians 3:6
Who made us sufficient ministers of a new covenant, not from letter, but from Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit makes alive.
Our Qualifications are Not from a Letter, but from the Spirit
    The Letter Kills
Trying to overcome sin by law, Romans 7:11
    Romans 7:11 NASB95
for sin, taking an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me.
Christ reconciled both Jew and Gentile through His body, putting to death the enmity between them, Ephesians 2:15-16
    Ephesians 2:15–16 NASB95
by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity.
    The Spirit Makes Alive
In Christ We Are Made Alive, 1 Corinthians 15:22
    1 Corinthians 15:22 NASB95
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.
Christ was put to death in the flesh, but made alive in spirit, 1 Peter 3:18
    1 Peter 3:18 NASB95
    For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;
The Spirit gives life, John 6:63
    John 6:63 NASB95
“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
We are alive to God in Our Spirit by the Holy Spirit, John 4:24
    John 4:24 NASB95
“God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

The Glory of the Letter Compared to the Spirit, 2 Corinthians 3:7-18

The Glory of the Ministry of Death in Writing, 2 Corinthians 3:7
    2 Corinthians 3:7
But since the ministry of the death in writing, being engraved in stone, came to be in a proper opinion so that the sons of Israel did not have the ability to gaze into the face of Moses because of the glory of his face was passing away,
The Glory Upon Moses, Exodus 34:29-35
When Moses came down from the Mountain with the tablets of the covenant his face was shining, Exodus 34:29
    Exodus 34:29 NASB95
It came about when Moses was coming down from Mount Sinai (and the two tablets of the testimony were in Moses’ hand as he was coming down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him.
After Speaking with God His Face Would Shine, Exodus 34:34
    Exodus 34:34 NASB95
But whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with Him, he would take off the veil until he came out; and whenever he came out and spoke to the sons of Israel what he had been commanded,
Moses veiled His Face so Israel would not see the Glory Fading
The Law Brought Death, Hebrews 10:28
    Hebrews 10:28 NASB95
Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
The Law Could not Impart Life, Galatians 3:21
    Galatians 3:21 NASB95
Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law.
How Much More the Glory of the Spirit, 2 Corinthians 3:8
    2 Corinthians 3:8
how will the ministry of the Spirit not be in more glory?
The Proper Opinion of the Law Expressed by Moses’ Face Shining
The Proper Opinion Expressed by the Spirit
The Surpassing Ministry Has More Glory, 2 Corinthians 3:9
    2 Corinthians 3:9
For since the ministry of the condemnation is glory, much more surpassing the ministry of the righteousness in glory.
There is No Condemnation (Result of Judgment), Romans 8:1
    Romans 8:1 (NASB95)
Therefore there is now no condemnation (κατάκριμα) for those who are in Christ Jesus.
The Ministry of Righteousness Surpasses the Ministry of Condemnation
The Word of Righteousness is Solid Food, not Milk, Hebrews 5:13
    Hebrews 5:13 NASB95
For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.
Christ is a Completion of the Law Because of Righteousness, Romans 10:4
    Romans 10:4
For Christ is the end of the law because of righteousness unto all the ones who believe.
The Body is Dead Because of Sin, but the Spirit is Alive Because of Righteousness, Romans 8:10
    Romans 8:10 NASB95
If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.
The Law Has No Glory Compared to Righteousness, 2 Corinthians 3:10
    2 Corinthians 3:10
For even the thing in a state of being glorified did not have a state of glory in this part on account of the surpassing glory.
Since that Which Renders the Law Ineffective is Through Glory, That Glory Remains, 2 Corinthians 3:11
    2 Corinthians 3:11
For since that which renders ineffective is through glory, much more the thing remaining in glory.
Having This Hope, We Make Use of The Glory that Remains, 2 Corinthians 3:12
    2 Corinthians 3:12
Therefore while having such hope in much boldness we make use of [it].
The Veil Remains On Israel When Reading the Old Testament, 2 Corinthians 3:13-15
    2 Corinthians 3:13–15
And not just as Moses placed a veil upon his face, for the purpose that the sons of Israel did not gaze upon the end of the rendering ineffective,
but their thoughts were hardened; for until today the same veil, not having been unveiled, remains upon the reading of the old covenant because it [the veil] is rendered ineffective in Christ.
But today when Moses is read a veil lay upon their heart.
When An Israelite Turns to The Lord (Jesus) the Veil is Taken Away, 2 Corinthians 3:16
    2 Corinthians 3:16
But whenever he should turn facing [the] Lord the veil is taken away.
Typically a Jew that is Saved Today Based Upon the Death and Resurrection of Christ is More Fervent in Preaching the Gospel to Israel
Paul Expresses this Passion, Romans 9:1-3
    Romans 9:1–3 NASB95
I am telling the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience testifies with me in the Holy Spirit, that I have great sorrow and unceasing grief in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were accursed, separated from Christ for the sake of my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh,
Freedom Where the Lord is, 2 Corinthians 3:17
    2 Corinthians 3:17
And [the] Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of [the] Lord is, there is liberty.
    Law is Bondage, Galatians 2:4
    Galatians 2:4 NASB95
But it was because of the false brethren secretly brought in, who had sneaked in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, in order to bring us into bondage.
Freedom is the Ability to Live Out Righteousness, Romans 6:18
    Romans 6:18 NASB95
and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
The Glory of the Ministry of Righteousness is From One Level of Glory to Another, 2 Corinthians 3:18
    2 Corinthians 3:18
And we all, with an unveiled face, while reflecting the glory of [the] Lord, are being transformed into the same image from a quality of glory unto a quality of glory, just as from the Spirit of [the] Lord.
    Our Glory does not Fade
We reflect the Lord with unveiled faces
We are transformed into the image of Christ, showing His glory
In Christ we are able to Mature, Hebrews 5:12-14
    Hebrews 5:12–14 NASB95
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.
Using of the Renewed Mind to Determine the Will of God, Romans 12:2
    Romans 12:2 NASB95
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
Coming to a Full Experiential Knowledge of The Son of God, Ephesians 4:13
    Ephesians 4:13 NASB95
until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.

    Scripture Reading

The Saints in Corinth are Paul’s Letter of Commendation, 2 Corinthians 3:1-4
    2 Corinthians 3:1–4
Do we begin again for ourselves to commend ourselves? Except we need, as some, a letter of recommendation towards you or out from your recommendation?
