Titus 3:4 NLT But—When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love,Titus 3:5 NLT he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. The GospelThe million-dollar question.“If you died today and stood before God and He asked, ‘Why should I let you into heaven?’ — what would your answer be?”There is not a more important question you can yourself. There are some common answers to this question.See if these sound like you?“I tried to be a good person.”This is by far the most common answer.Often followed by“I treated people right.”“I didn’t hurt anyone.”“I tried to do more good than bad.”“I helped people when I could.”In their mind, heaven works on a moral scale. If their good outweighs their bad, they assume they’re in.“I’m better than most people.”Not said arrogantly — just honestly.“I never killed anyone.”“I stayed out of trouble.”“I worked hard and cared for my family.”They compare themselves to criminals or extreme evil and conclude:“Surely God grades on a curve.”“God knows my heart.”This one sounds spiritual but is usually vague. It goes like this.“He knows I meant well.”“He knows I’m not perfect.”“He knows I tried.”“Me and Jesus have our own thing going”It’s an appeal to God’s kindness. There is no understanding of holiness or justice. They will operate by their own moral compass their own truth.“Everyone goes to heaven… right?”A growing number simply assume heaven is automatic.“A loving God wouldn’t send anyone to hell.”“Heaven is for everyone.”“As long as you’re sincere.”They see heaven as universal afterlife.Heaven is a holy place.Honest UncertaintySome will just be real.“I don’t know.”“I hope I’m good enough.”“I’ve never thought about it.”This is probably the second most common answer. What this reveals. They don’t understand the gospel. Most people base their hope of heaven on performance, comparison, or sincerity. Not GraceThey assumeGod rewards effort.Heaven is earnedSin is graded on a curve.Good intentions count as righteousness. This way anyone can get to heaven. The concept of hell is hard to imagine for most. They certainly can’t imagine their loved ones there.Few will answer this way.By Christ alone.By God’s grace. That trusting in Jesus as my savior is all that is required.Turn to God’s word.John 14:6 ESV Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.Matthew 7:21 NIV “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.Matthew 7:22 NIV Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’Look at all those good works.Matthew 7:23 NIV Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’Don’t be counted among the evildoers.Listen to our verse today!Titus 3:5 NLT he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. One Last Verse.Romans 10:9 NKJV If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.Turn from your sins.Turn from the hope in your own righteousness.Turn to Christ.Come to the Cross of Jesus Titus 3:4NIV2011
