PARISH AGM

Sunday 28th April at 9am.

It is a Combined Parish Service at St. James.

An Important Message for the Parish of Keppel

Below is a letter from Laura regarding a significant change to our Parish’s financial situation. For those who are new to the parish, I thought some context would be helpful.

In 2022 one of our parishioners put forward the idea of refinancing our loan (thanks John!). As a Parish we should be very thankful that we have paid off so much of the loan in such a short time, and this would capitalise on all our hard work.

Two years later, even though our debt is quite small compared to the value of our building, we have found it difficult to move our loan.

So, the Bishop and Registrar have worked together to offer us a new way forward. An even better way. If we use all our bequests and reserves to pay off as much of the loan as we can, the Diocese will take on the small balance of our loan.

This will help us in a number of ways.

  1. We will reduce the loan amount and therefore reduce our monthly interest payments. (Our Treasurer likes this advantage.)
  2. This releases money that we currently cannot access (such as the Ada Aiken bequest) and puts it to better use.
  3. This gives us better control of our loan, allowing us to slow down our repayments at a time when our weekly offerings are not quite as much as we need.

As you will have seen in our Parish Council minutes we have prayed and waited patiently for this day, and God has answered our prayers. So, we can be thankful that things are finally moving.

While all our bequests and cash reserves will be used to pay down the loan, the projects Parish Council have committed to, will still proceed as planned. This includes our lighting, cabling, guttering, electrical work, broken fence and leaking roof at Emu Park. And in Yeppoon, any money given in the last month for our Easter Projects.

Dear Parishioners,

It is the intention of Parish Council to seek permission from Bishop in Council next Tuesday, 16 April to refinance the mortgage for St James Church. Following advice from the Registrar, it is proposed that Parish Council approve the use of the remaining money in the Aida Aiken estate and the money currently being held by ANFIN to pay down as much of our current loan as we can. The residual amount on the mortgage will then be taken over by the Diocese at a much-reduced interest rate.

Please keep your Parish and Diocesan leaders in your prayers at this important time, and give thanks to God for his continuing faithfulness towards us.

If you have any questions or concerns about this proposal, please contact a member of Parish Council at your earliest convenience.

Kind regards,

Laura Kann

(Parish Warden)

Prayers for Sunday, 14th April

The Third Sunday of Easter

Sentence:

Turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord. Acts 3:19–20

Prayer of the Day:

Lord of life, by submitting to death, you conquered the grave; by being lifted upon the cross, you draw all peoples to you; by being raised from the dead, you restore to humanity all that was lost through sin: be with us in your risen power, that in word and deed we may proclaim the marvellous mystery of death and resurrection. For all praise is yours, now and throughout eternity. Amen.
