How to Live Obediently: Confidence in Prayer

1 John 5:14-15; Eph 4:14-21; Col 1:9-14

Pastor Jon Hanson

Introduction

TFL exists to glorify God. We do that by teaching and applying the Truth of God’s Word resulting in Prayer, Evangelism, Edification, Worship, and Service. Prayer is difficult for may Believers. But the Bible clearly teaches that the name of the Son of God can be believed, not only for eternal life, but also for answered prayer.

Our Confidence in His Name – v. 14a

Our Prayer According to His Will – v. 14b-c

Our Assurance He Hears and Answers Our Prayers – v. 15

Two Examples of Biblical Prayer

  • Eph 3:14-21 – (1) That they would be strengthened in the inner man; (2) That Christ would dwell in their hearts through faith; (3) That they would have power to know the love of Christ; (4) That they would be filled with the fullness of God.
  • Col 1:9-14 – (1) That you may be filled with the knowledge of His will; (2) That you may walk worthy of the Lord; (3) That you are strengthened with all might; (4) That you would give thanks to the Father.

Timeless Truth

When we continue to believe in the name of the Son of God – Yeshua – we can have confidence that our prayers will be heard and answered. With our focus always on Him, we make our requests to God according to His will. We can pray boldly when we pray for those things that are in God’s will. Because God commands us to love one-another, we can and should pray for the needs of others.

Living Lesson

Prayer is an absolute necessity in the Christian life. I can have confidence that He will hear and answer my petitions I ask in His will. For you TFLer’s – And this I pray that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God (Phil 1:9-10).

Prayer with Fasting: We need to Pray, now more than ever for our nation. 1) Pray for the unity of our nation, 2) pray for the lord to confuse and confound the plans of those who operate counter to the truth, 3) pray that the church (followers of Jesus) would be the light of the world, 4) pray that our federal government leaders would recognize, understand, and yield to the truth, 5) pray that state legislatures will take up their responsibility to review state election systems and expose any corruption or manipulation, 6) pray that God’s people would resolve to stand firm and unwavering in the power of God’s might, and 7) pray for the leaders in the church and its members that we would demonstrate the love of Christ to our neighbors and one another.
