First Church Alert
5+ Things to Know this Week @ First Church
It’s a busy time of year. “5” is not enough…
1 Mike Miller
A memorial service for life-long member and dear friend Mike Miller will take place on Saturday, April 9, at 11 a.m. Let’s please keep Janet, Zach & Shanna, Avery, Callie, Mike’s siblings and extended family in our prayers.
2 Palm Sunday Carnival
We celebrate Palm Sunday with our epic “Hosanna” worship followed by a family carnival on the church playground. Kids can meet Jose the Donkey, play games, and spend time in the bouncy house. Please invite your friends and family!
3 Lust, finally
It was inevitable that we’d arrive at the topic of lust as we consider the 7 deadly sins. Uncomfortable? Maybe a little. Necessary? Absolutely. As the great Frederick Buechner once put it, “Lust is the craving for salt of a person who is dying of thirst” (Translated: “We know it will only hurt us but we crave it anyway.”) Join us online or in person at 10 a.m.
4 Quick Choir Update
Choir Members, you’ll be getting ready for Holy Week over the next two Thursday nights:
Thursday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m. **time change**
Thursday, April 7, at 6:30 p.m.
5 Meeting of Children’s & Youth Volunteers
Do you or do you anticipate volunteering with our children’s or youth ministries? In order to comply with our insurance company’s requirement of training for these volunteers, we will meet on Sunday after worship briefly for training. The training will consist of a short presentation on our church’s Abuse Prevention Policy. Volunteers just need to sign a receipt that they have received, understand, and will comply with the policy.
The cistern building trip to Xpujil is tentatively back on track again, if we can get commitment happening soon. Here's what you need to know in addition to the broad description of the trip on the flyer. The trip dates are August 1-August 8 (travel included; 6 days on site). The cost is $570 plus flight to Cancun. Flights are running about $300 from Denver or $500-$600 out of Colorado Springs. Financial assistance is available through the church. We'll need your commitment soon so we can finalize arrangements with the Outreach Foundation. Please contact Pastor MJ directly at 719-469-7717 if this is something God is calling you to do.
