We welcome you in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

We hope you will be encouraged and edified, having heard Biblical

truth in love.

Great Basin RP is a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of

North America, one of the oldest denominations in the United States.

We are committed to the doctrines of Scripture and the formation of

loving community as a necessary fruit of the Gospel.

In light of the above, we believe that the most comprehensive and accurate summary of biblical teaching is found in the Westminster Confession of Faith, together with the Westminster Larger and

Shorter Catechisms. These documents were completed in 1647 as a summary of Christian belief and practice, with the desired intention of helping Christ’s church become unified in doctrine, government, and worship (John 17:11). In addition to the Westminster Standards, we also maintain the Testimony of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of

North America, which is our denomination’s own continuing and contemporary application of the Word of God to our current culture and context.

Prayer Requests.

·      Pray for Sandi’s coworker Shawn. His wife Pam has passed on and is with the Lord.

·      Pray for Sandi’s Aunt Jackie who has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

·      Pray for Eric’s mother Marlene, who fell and broke her leg and shoulder.

·      Pray for the Garrisons and Declan, who was born, but has needed surgeries. Give praise and thanks that he is doing well.

·      Pray for Andrew that he gets a better shift with his job so that he can worship with us each Lord’s Day.

·      Pray for Allison’s grandparents, that their medical and living needs would be met.

·      Pray for Allison’s friends Michelle and Mike whose 4 month old son Jack needs intensive reconstructive surgery on His head. His surgery was rescheduled and was successful. 

·      Pray for wisdom for the Kothmans in dealing with parental health needs.  Pray for Kobi’s parents with COVID

·      Pray for Kobi’s friend Kim who had surgery for breast cancer.

·      Pray for RP Church Planters and for Rev. Hemphill as he is beginning to church plant in Boise, ID.

·      Pray for Ashley’s former roommate Jess, who has chronic COVID issues.

·      Pray for Eric Maupin who is having ongoing COVID issues

·      Pray for Pastor’s Family friend, Mark, who has Kidney Cancer

·      Pray for Randy who is a missionary in the Middle East

·      Pray for Deacon Eric Mulder at the Edmonton, CA Congregation who is beginning treatment for a brain tumor.

·      Pray for Vanessa a daughter of the San Diego Church who struggles with mental illness. Give thanks for a good interaction with her and her mother.

10. The Old Testament is the word of Christ and is of equal authority with the New Testament. Nor are the earthly words of Christ quoted in the Scriptures in any way of greater authority or of greater significance to the Church than the rest of God’s Word. It is the triune God who speaks with equal and absolute authority in and through every. All which are given by inspiration of God, to be the rule of faith and life. Luke 16:29, 31; Eph. 2:20; Rev. 22: 18-19; 2 Tim. 3:16.

11. The truthfulness of God, and not the reasonableness of any doctrine, is high and reverent esteem of the Holy Scripture. And the heavenliness of the matter, the efficacy of the doctrine, the majesty of the style, the consent of all the parts, the scope of the whole (which is, to give all glory to God), the full discovery it makes of the only way of man’s salvation, the many other incomparable excellencies, and the entire perfection thereof, are arguments whereby it doth abundantly evidence itself to be the Word of God: yet notwithstanding, our full persuasion and assurance of the infallible truth and divine authority thereof, is from the inward work of the Holy Spirit bearing witness by and with the Word in our hearts.

12. We reject the view that the Bible sets forth truth in the form of myth.

13. We reject the view that the Bible is only partially inspired, that inspiration pertains only to “revelational” matters, or “saving” truth, or that the Bible as originally given contains any inaccuracy in fact or history.

14. We reject the view that the Holy Spirit gives personal revelations or that He leads men apart from the general principles of the Word or contrary to its teachings.

15. We reject the concept that there is continuing revelation of God in the actions, decisions or decrees of the Church.

From the Pastor’s Study

        God’s special revelation is his intentional communication to mankind. As we discussed under the question of who does theology, man was created in God’s image (Gen. 1:26-27). Therefore, God’s special revelation must come to us in the form of a created image of his own infinite and eternal knowledge. Theologians have expressed this distinction as the difference between theology in itself and our theology (John Duns Scotus), archetypal theology in God and ectypal theology for us (Junius), and two levels of knowledge, the one perfect and self-sufficient, and the other limited and dependent (Cornelius Van Til). Millard Erickson writes of the “anthropic form” of special revelation, meaning that it came “in human language and human categories of thought and action.” The distinction does not destroy the possibility of reliable communication, for God’s creation of man in his image implies that there can be a true analogy between his thoughts and ours. The Bible speaks much about God’s transcendence, but pervasively asserts that God communicates meaningfully with us.

           Although God does reveal himself and his will to human beings, he does so not at his level, but at our level, somewhat like Albert Einstein might talk to a little child about science—except the difference is infinitely greater. To show us the difference between the true God and idols, the Lord teaches us that his mind operates in a manner far beyond the limits of our created minds. This is not just a matter of knowing more information, but of thinking on an entirely different plane. No one can ever give God counsel or teach him anything, for his understanding is infinite (Ps. 147:5; Isa. 40:13-14, 28; Rom. 11:33-34). He is “wonderful in counsel” (Isa. 28:29), which means that his wisdom is supernatural (cf. Ps 139:6). His mind is like a deep abyss where we can never reach to the bottom (92:5). Therefore, God’s revelation cannot be “equal to the mode of his essence, which is infinite,” as Junius said, but “according to the mode of His will, accommodating His revelations to what our condition can handle.” – Joel Beeke, Reformed Systematic Theology
