Grateful Hearts of the Bible
  • Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee
  • Now Thank We All Our God
  • A Gift to You
  • In 1944,
    immediately after WW1
    the U.S. Dollar became
    the currency of the world.
    The U.S. was
    in many ways,
    enriched by the war.
    Our money was backed up
    with gold mostly held
    at Fort Knox.
    Since 1971,
    the dollar is no longer
    backed by gold.
    Yet, it remains
    “the currency of the world.”
    Most traded currency
    in the world.
    75% of 100’s
    outside of the U.S.
    Though inflation has risen
    and spending power has
    continued to decrease
    since 1971,
    America remains
    the wealthiest nation
    in the world.
    If it were true
    that the dollar is
truly the currency of the world
    then the more you have
    the better you will be,
    but is that really true?
    Studies show
    self-rated happiness
    increase with income
    among lower-class communities.
    Once, it got to
    higher class
    money and happiness
    no longer correlated.
    Could it be that
    there is a greater
    more powerful currency?
    Joy
    Peace
    Contentment
    These are not emotions.
    Emotions change with mood.
    Thanksgiving is the
    embodiment of
    contentment.
    This elusive prize,
    is a states of mind.
    How can I say this?
    because God empowered
    people to have
    thanksgiving when
    things were great
    or horrible...
    Who said this?
    Job 1:21 ESV
And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”

    Job

    Lost:
    Kids
    Animals
    Wealth
    He lost it all
    was not
    salty
    angry at God
    resentful.
    He CHOSE to be
    at peace with
    God’s leading.
    Who said this?
    2 Corinthians 7:4 ESV
... In all our affliction, I am overflowing with joy.

    Paul

    found in:
    2 Corinthians 7:4 ESV
... In all our affliction, I am overflowing with joy.
    When is Paul happy?
    through affliction.
    How?
    Why?
    The verse explains:
    Romans 5:3–5 ESV
... but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope...
    Suffering -> endurance
    Endurance -> character
    Character -> hope
    But not without
    contentment
    thanksgiving.
    Hebrews 13:5 ESV
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
What shall we be less focused on?
    money.
    What is our great aim?
    contentment.
    Who said this?
    Proverbs 15:15–16 ESV
All the days of the afflicted are evil, but the cheerful of heart has a continual feast. Better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble with it.

    Solomon

    In:
    Proverbs 15:15–16 ESV
All the days of the afflicted are evil, but the cheerful of heart has a continual feast. Better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble with it.
    Solomon was
    no just wisest
    also:
    richest
    most powerful.
    What does rich man teach?
    better to have
    little with cheerfulness
    lots with evil.
