    Prayer for a Worthy Walk

    vv.9-14
    - Filled with the knowledge of his will, so as to walk worthy and bear fruit — knowledge produces a walk (1:9–10). Cf. Ephesians 1:17 “17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the full knowledge of Him,”
    - Strengthened with all power for endurance and patience, with joy (1:11).
    - The great transfer: qualified, delivered from the domain of darkness, moved into the kingdom of the beloved Son (1:12–13). Cf. Acts 26:18 “18 to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the authority of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.’” 1 Peter 2:9 “9 But you are a chosen family, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;”
    - In whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins (1:14).

    The Supremacy of Christ

    - Supreme over creation: the image of the invisible God, firstborn (rank, not origin); all things created through him and for him; in him all things hold together (1:15–17). Cf. John 1:1–3; Heb 1:3

    3 who is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power; who, having accomplished cleansing for sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
    - Supreme over the church and new creation: head of the body, firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent (1:18).
    - Supreme as reconciler: the fullness of God dwells in him, reconciling all things by the blood of his cross (1:19–20). Cf. 2 Corinthians 5:19 “19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their transgressions against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.” .

    Saved to Grow

    Once alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds (1:21).
    Now reconciled in his body of flesh, to be presented holy and blameless (1:22).
    "If indeed you continue in the faith… not shifting from the hope of the gospel" — perseverance, grounded in a gospel proclaimed in all creation (1:23). Cf. Heb 3:14; John 15:4–6 “4 “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit from itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. 6 “If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned.”
    Seasons change. Faces in the pulpit change. But the One who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn from the dead, preeminent in everything, he does not change, and he does not leave. Fix your eyes there. Continue there. Stand there. And you will not be moved.
