Hebrews 11:1–10 KJV 1900 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report. 3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. 4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. 5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. 7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. 8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. 9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: 10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.Topic IntroductionStory Start:Whenever my kids want something really bad from me it comes with conditions. In other words, if they want something from me, I’m going to want something from them in return. What I ask of them depends on what they want from me; I have to balance it out.Story Setup:Last year my baby girl Lanya wanted something for me, so I said OK, I will give you what you ask for, if you agree to rap the lyrics to one of the songs from my favorite Christian rapper Bizzel. I know this is a challenge for them because they don’t like my choice of music.Story Shift:My Daughter said can I choose the song, I said sure, then she chooses a song call “who’s the man. She pulled up the lyrics and took some time to rehearse; she came back 30 min later and said she was ready. We played the song and she rapped along. It was hit and miss.Story Significance:I was well pleased; I got a kick out of seeing her rap those wholesome Christian lyrics. I shared that with you because God is the same way, when we ask for something, he also requires something in return, what God wants in return is faith. God requirement is your faith.Sermon Statement:The only way to maintain proper relationship and fellowship with God is by faithThe only way to get what you need from God is by faithThe only way to get where God is taking you is by faithSermon Saying:When it comes to God, if it’s not by faith, it’s not going to happenBlessing Paragraph:Every believer has faith to get what they need, and to get where they are goingProblem Paragraph:Faith comes at a price; trust requires you to give up the demand to know and controlChallenge Paragraph:We must not only trust God for what we get, but also for what we must go throughText Background:Isreal was dealing with sever persecution, so much so, that many of the followers of Christ were ready to go back to Judaism. The author was writing to encourage them to not give up and continue in their faith, he explains that it requires faith to walk with God.He tells them that turning away from Jesus will be to their detriment, because Jesus is superior to what they are going back to. Jesus is the only way to a right relationship with God. Moses received message from the angle, Jesus is greater than the angles. The priest were the mediators for the people, now Jesus is the high priest. The animal sacrifices brought temporary atonement, but now full and final atonement is only by faith in Jesus. The author warns them not to forsake the gift of forgiveness offered through Christ. The author encourages them to endure the persecution and continue in faith because in Jesus they have Gods word, the hope for new creation, an eternal priest to intercede for them, and a perfect sacrifice that atones for their sins, he said the promise outweigh the persecution. In today’s text the author goes into detail about what faith is, and what it produces in the lives of those who utilize it. He uses the examples of Men of God who are respected and renowned among the Jewish people. He presents these Heros of faith as the model to follow.Text Outline:I. WHAT IS FAITHa.
